Promoting faith and fellowship for Catholics in their 20s and 30s

Happy Feast of Corpus Christi! Today we celebrate the body and blood of Christ which we discover it its totality in the Eucharist. For most of us, we receive communion weekly and as it is presented to us by the Eucharist minister, we proclaim "Amen!" "Yes, I believe!", but what is it exactly we believe? For Catholics, the eucharist is an extraordinary gift the Lord gives to us, our only opportunity for the living Lord to dwell within us. That is pretty cool, is it not?! Many may not know that the word "eucharist" comes from the Greek word meaning "thanksgiving." So in essence, we are not "required" to receive the Eucharist at every Mass, and really should only receive it when our souls have been adequately prepared (which is why the Lord calls us to the Sacrament of Reconciliation aka confession). Rather, receiving the body and blood of Christ is our way of being grateful or saying an enthusiastic "Thank You!" to our God who does so much for us, even though we deserve none of it. What are you thankful for this Sunday?

We at St. Vincent's YAG are thankful for a vibrant group of members who want to learn more about their faith and do more works of charity in and bring the love of Christ to the community. We are working hard to add more and varied activities to the calendar, but need help from the group to keep them going. If you are interested in leading a particular activity and/or would like to suggest one, please let us know.

While there are no formal YAG events this week, there are three exciting events to look forward to in the coming weeks!

First up: Get down and dirty helping build a community garden during Garden Day at Star Community Home! Saturday, June 23rd from 10am-12:30pm.

The next day: Sunday June 24th, 6pm--For those of you who don't have plans after the 5:15 YAG Mass, feel free to pop on down to the parish hall afterward for some wine, cheese, and socializing. Bring a snack to share if you wish!

And let's not forget: Co-ed Basketball! Lace up your shoes, get your team back together from your CYO Days and come out and have a little fun! The mission of the CYO Adult Athletics is to provide an opportunity for adults in the Archdiocese of San Francisco to meet new people, build community and put into practice the Christian values of respect, love, and compassion through athletics and fellowship. CYO Athletics is starting two co-ed basketball leagues—advanced and intermediate—this summer. Games will take place on Sundays between June 24– August 5. For more information, please contact fellow young adult, Anne Stricherz at

We sincerely hope to see you at any of our future events, most especially our Wine and Cheese Social! For those of you who are will be vacationing this month or anytime during the summer, we wish you safe travels and many blessings on your journeys. During those travels, please keep in mind all of our friends and family members who struggle with their finances or their health that may limit their ability to see the world. What can you do to brighten that person's day?

May the Lord continue to gift all of us with abundant grace, and more importantly, lead us to recognizing and appreciating the gift of the Eucharist. May He lead us all to the altar weekly, if not daily, as a way of us saying "Thank you, Lord. I have done nothing to earn your love, but thank you anyway." May the Lord bless and keep you, may His face shine upon you. Have a praise-worthy week.

Blessings from your Young Adult's Leadership Team,

Christina Bellino Sullivan, Courtney O'Hagan, Paul Boyer, Greg Sirotek, Jonas Malalang, and John Monley.
