Happy Financial Literacy Month!

Welcome to Financial Literacy Month. We wanted to take take this month to thank all of you for being part of the community to learn and share financial education. The purpose of this month is to encourage everyone to develop positive financial habits that allows you to provide for yourself and your family; invest in the future; and contribute to the community.

We are excited to share resources and events taking place this month that are free to use. We also wanted to make sure you are aware of our annual scholarship that will close at the end of the month. Please share with your students to apply.

Scholarship Opportunity

We wanted to thank everyone that has already spread the word from last month about our annual scholarship. Please continue to spread the word since we have until the end of the month (April 30th) to apply. You can apply to the scholarship here. We will announce the winners in May 2022.

Finding free money with scholarships can help you avoid student debt. MI Student Aid has listed our scholarship on its database. You can find others here in your community.
Money Smart Week 2022

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the event. This week-long (April 9 - 16) free virtual campaign aims to help people better manage their personal finances with a focus on those hardest-hit by the COVID-19 pandemic.

This year's line-up includes:
  • Monday, April 11 @ 1:00 p.m. CT - Spend Smart. Eat Smart. Presented by: Iowa State University Extension and Outreach
  • Tuesday, April 12 @ 1:00 p.m. CT - Credit: Build & Improve It! Presented by: Consumer Financial Protection Bureau
  • Wednesday, April 13 @ 1:00 p.m. CT - Buying or Refinancing a Home: Options & Tools. Presented by: North West Housing Partnership
  • Thursday, April 14 @ 1:00 p.m. CT - Understanding Social Security Benefits. Presented by: The Social Security Administration

Attention Michigan Drivers: Refunds Coming!
Governor Gretchen Whitmer has announced that the Michigan Catastrophic Claims Association (MCCA) and the state's top insurance regulators will refund to car insurers. Refunds have already started going out and should be mailed out no later than May 9th.

All vehicles that were insured as of 11:59pm on October 31, 2021 are eligible to receive a refund if the vehicle was covered by a policy that meets the minimum insurance requirements for operating a vehicle on Michigan roads. Each vehicle insured will get a $400 refund.

If you have questions, the Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS) has created an FAQ to help answer any of your questions.
