Message from the Pastor
Dear Friend in Faith,

It’s official: summer is here and it feels like we are on fire! Phoenix is often the hottest place in the country on most days, but it’s the perfect setting for Sunday when we will be talking about doomsday movies. You know, the story where the world as we know it ends. The world population has dwindled to a remnant and will soon be gone. I admit it; I like to watch movies like these.

What is the attraction to apocalyptic movies? For me, it is the flight or fight instinct, the adrenaline rush, where I am a survivor, of course. I can wonder if I have the resourcefulness to survive. I like to learn about the ways that people cope and survive. Deep, deep down, I know I would most likely be...

Peace with Justice Sunday and VIP
In this video, Pam Poley, chair of the Church and Society Ministry Team, invites you to support VIP -- Valley Interfaith Project -- on Peace with Justice Sunday. The special offering we'll take in worship will help support VIP's advocacy work in public education, health care, immigrant integration & policy reform, sex trafficking, workforce training, prison reform, neighborhood safety and more. VIP brings the faith community together to create positive change.
Sunday Worship at PVUMC
Paradise Valley United Methodist Church (PVUMC) invites you to worship at 9:30 or 11 am. The later Ignite Modern worship service is bulletin-free, but you can download your bulletin for the 9:30 am traditional service as well as the June monthly Looking Ahead bulletin insert OR read them on our website. During June, July and August, we will have TWO worship services at 9:30 and 11 am.

State of the Church Next Sunday followed by All-Church Conference
On Sunday, June 30, Dave Henderson will give a State of the Church address in worship. Come hear how we're doing and plans for where we'd like to go with God's guidance. Then, join other members for an All-Church Conference at 12:15 pm in the chapel. The annual meeting includes a Church Council meeting, where members will vote on the proposed budget, followed by the annual church meeting. The agenda includes voting on nominated leaders for the 2019-2020 fiscal year, the annual membership report, and reports from clergy and ministry teams. Read more about this and the recent Desert Southwest Annual Conference.
June Worship Series: God and Film
This Sunday, we wrap up the God on Film worship series. Rev. Brenda Smith preaches at 9:30 am and Pastor Christopher Wurpts will deliver the message at 11 am (Ignite modern worship) on "Armageddon Fear, Apocalyptic Faith.".

WARNING: The World War Z official movie trailer is intense. The earth has been overrun by zombies in this futuristic, apocalyptic film.

T ake a trip to the movies this Sunday in church and see how God is revealed in the Bible and in film.

Binge Reading the Bible
For seven weeks this summer, you're invited to join us for Binge Reading the Bible, a new worship series that immerses you in scripture. Just like we binge-watch our favorite shows on Netflix, we can binge-read our way through the Bible. We'll look at the stories that are integral to our faith and explore the different genres and themes. Get ready to binge July 7!
Summer Sundays at PVUMC
Summer is here! Our summer worship schedule during June, July and August reduces our regular 3 services to TWO, at 9:30 and 11 am. The 8 am service will return September 1. Read more on our website.

We have some wonderful volunteers who have stepped up to lead, but could use more assistance. If you can help, email Rev. Brenda Smith. Safe Sanctuary and other training provided.
