Be Realistic - The most impartant part of achieving your goals is making them attainable! Try to avoid absolutes when you're setting your goals.
Take Your Time - Plan and schedule your time carefully. Decide how you will deal with the temptation to skip that exercise class or sit on the couch. This could include calling a friend from the senior center for help, remain positive when you talk to yourself or remind yourself how good you'll feel after you've made some progress toward your goal.
Don’t Keep Secrets - Tell friends and family members who will be there to support your resolve to change yourself for the better or improve your health. The best-case scenario is to find a buddy who shares your New Year’s resolution and motivate each other. Work with others to develop a Pro and Con list of relating to your goal.
Celebrate Your Small Wins - Treat yourself to something you enjoy that doesn’t contradict your resolution. On the other hand, don't beat yourself when you slip. Do your best each day - taking one day at a time.
Keep Track - Short-term goals are easier to keep, and each small accomplishment will help keep you motivated. Experts say it takes about 21 days for a new activity to become a habit and six months for it to become part of your personality. It won’t happen overnight, so be persistent and patient!
