Happy birthday America

On July 4th, the Continental Congress formally adopted the Declaration of Independence, which had been written largely by Jefferson. Though the vote for actual independence took place on July 2nd, from then on the 4th became the day that was celebrated as the birth of American independence. American stands for equality, freedom and justice for all, and that is what we are celebrating this week. It is important to remember what America stands for at a time when our country is divided, people are protesting injustice and confidence in public and elected officials is very low. America still a great country, and it will be better if we come together, respect each other and celebrate our differences.
Happy birthday America.

Inspiration

On this day, we find inspiration in Imam Ali Al Reda, who was a champion for acquiring knowledge, interfaith dialogue and community service. He was silenced for 50 years and when he was giving the chance to speak he shared his knowledge with people of all faiths, Christians, Jews, Muslims and nonbelievers under the banner of civil discourse. So, we learn from him that if you are not happy with the status quo or with your leadership, then educate yourself, get involved in the community, run for office or vote for candidates who share your common values. The goal is to be a productive member of society and work for peace, equality and justice.
