Introducing an Easy-to-Use, Simple Technique for Initiating Effective Intention Setting


The Astrology of 2024 Endings and 2025 Beginnings


December 30 of the year 2024 ended with a New Moon in Capricorn. This lunation was just two short days before the calendar turned to 2025. Consequently, this celestial event was close enough to the New Year for it to be viewed as both the cosmic door to be closed in making peace with 2024 as well as the portal to guide entering into 2025 with hope and optimism. This lunar event offers us the gift of being a blueprint and navigation guide for self-mastery in the year ahead. As a New Moon it is notable for us to be aware that BOTH the Sun and the Moon, the two most important entities in an astrological chart, fell in the astrological sign of Capricorn.

Capricorn, is an earth sign ruled by the disciplinarian, taskmaster planet of Saturn. A New Moon in Capricorn invites us to plant seeds of intention grounded in practicality and complimented by the setting of sustainable realistic goals. Both cosmic wisdom and common sense then suggest that practical goals are more likely to manifest if they are aligned with your higher purpose. Thus, you may find it is helpful to start the year spending some time and energy assessing if in 2024 you were on target with your higher purpose and in grounded practical terms and then also reflecting on how you want to continue on this path, readjust, and/or start anew in 2025.


An easy-to-use simple technique for initiating this process:


1.) Assess if the actions you took to achieve goals in 2024 were practical and aligned with your Higher Purpose.


2.) Create an action plan for achieving your intentions for the coming year that supports proactive practical

action attuned to your Higher Purpose.


NOTE: This activity unto itself is not a comprehensive exercise in intention setting. Depending upon personal preferences this intention setting exercise can be the kick starter to an activity that involves plenty of rich introspective time that results in a highly detailed plan of action, or it can be a quick and simple exercise that brings a breath of new determination to your existing plans and goals. Either approach can produce a meaningful outcome. We begin by turning to Numerology to access a quick and simplified approach to identifying your Higher Purpose.


Numerology and a Simplified Approach to Higher Purpose Identification


Your Numerological Life Path (AKA Higher Purpose)


This assessment exercise involves calculating and applying a very abbreviated interpretation or your Life Path Number from numerology. I have personally used numerology to share and illuminate the meaning of this number with literally thousands of people. I know it to be accurately descriptive of one’s soul inspired path in life. In numerology it is called the Life Path number and from observed experience I know that it can also accurately be labeled the Higher Purpose Number. It has proven the test of time for being relevant for 99% of the people I have encountered. However, there is a caveat. Because this current newsletter application of this system is abbreviated I am aware you may need to stretch and be flexible in your understanding to see how it applies to you and your circumstances. Sage advice regarding all systems, is that it is best to approach this one and all others with a – “take what you need and leave the rest” approach.


How to Calculate Your Numerology Life Path (Higher Purpose) Number

Write out your birthday in digits and add them all up. For example: If your birthday is November 2, 1998, or 11/2/1998, you would add 1+1+2+1+9+9+8 = 31. Then keep adding until you get a single digit: In this case, 3+1 = a Life Path Number (AKA Higher Purpose Number of 4.)

Now You Are Ready to Engage in This Cosmic Mojo Exercise (Steps A, B., and C.)

Step C. Now, then, it is time to put this system to work to see whether your 2024 actions have served your Higher Purpose. The following instructions are for Part 1. NEXT WEEK the Mojo will focus on Part 2, that involves applying what you learn in Part 1 to planning for using Astrological and Numerological insights for being even more attuned to living in synch with your Higher Purpose in 2025.


Part 1.) Engage in a review of your major commitments and activities for 2024 to assess if the actions you took to achieve these goals in 2024 proved to be practical and aligned with your Higher Purpose.

Example: In 2024 I took a class in Creative Leadership. It contributed (or did not contribute) to the fulfillment

of _____________ of my Higher Purpose. (Choose a word from your list of words to fill in the blank.)


Commentary: In my over 3 decades experience of working with clients seeking spiritual answers to everyday challenges I have found that when someone is committed to authentically being all they can that, they, in general, tend to be very effective at living in tune with their Higher Selves. And, however, life IS complicated and can be overwhelming such that desired goals are subject to being abandoned. If you feel this has happened or is happening to you you undoubtedly know there are no simple answers. And, however, I am a believer in the idea that when we consciously choose to work WITH the forces of the Universe the Universe has a way of responding in kind to help us. With that in mind I encourage you to engage in Part 1 in preparation for Part 2 when we will be look at what 2025 has in store for us with regards to Universal forces.

Processed foods typically undergo multiple stages of preparation and preservation, which can strip them of essential nutrients and add undesirable elements like sodium, sugar, and artificial chemicals.


To effectively avoid these, focus on consuming whole, natural foods such as fresh fruits and vegetables, lean proteins, whole grains, and unprocessed nuts and seeds. Reading labels carefully can also help identify and steer clear of harmful ingredients like high-fructose corn syrup, trans fats, and artificial sweeteners. By making conscious food choices and preparing meals at home, you can maintain better control over what you consume, ultimately promoting better health and wellness.

We often talk about the importance of setting goals. We’ve shared lots of useful tips and step-by-step guides on finding your purpose, becoming more productive with time blocking, setting clear goals and planning them properly, keeping yourself accountablegetting things done, staying motivated, and being persistent.

But even so, it’s always possible to get off track and lose our momentum. It happens to the best of us–even to the most efficient and motivated. Getting distracted, overcoming stress and tough challenges, and having unexpected or urgent matters is a normal part of our everyday lives. But is this how it’s always going to be?

There is another concept that might help us out when we lose our focus and direction–intentions.Think of intentions as the precursors of goals. No matter how well defined, SMART, or personally important our goals are to us, at least 50% of the time achieving them is a matter of chance.

You can raise the odds of your goals turning into reality if you learn how to define your own intentions on the actions that will bring you closer to your goals.

Setting intentions gives you a real idea of what you want and where you are headed. With time, it becomes your inner guidance that can affect how you spend your time and what you cultivate in your life. 

Intentions answer the following questions:

  • What do I want to have achieved?
  • What am I going to do? How am I going to do it?
  • Are there any potential challenges?
  • How many pathways of decisions are there when it comes to overcoming these? 

According to psychologist Peter M. Gollwitzer’s research, strong goals produce drastic changes in behavior only when they’re accompanied by intentions.


Goals vs. Intentions

The main difference between goals and intentions lies mainly in how abstract they are.


GOALS

A goal is an “end towards which an effort is aimed”, the aim itself, or the desired result. It’s specific, concrete, and linear. Goals are mainly practical and efficient. They give us a clear vision of our desired results, and, if they’re formulated well, we can determine how far we are from achieving them at any moment.

Properly set goals give us a sense of control during an action. Setting goals engages a set of higher-level cognitive processes–planning and analyzing. These two are completely “left-brain” types of processes, there’s nothing ambiguous about them. Every time you succeed at getting closer to your goals, your brain gets a dopamine shot and enjoys it quite a lot.

But life doesn’t always go according to plan. Our willpower lowers, we become emotionally drained, other things preoccupy us, and we lose our discipline and vision.


INTENTIONS

An intention is defined as a plan to do something, or a determination to act in a certain way.

What keeps us on track in times of hardship is maintaining a positive mindset and the intention of achieving a certain goal. This is the underlying reason why you’re even set for that particular goal. Intentions give us focus and direction and help us keep an inner reminder of where we’re headed regardless of how much we go astray.

Intentions are the bigger picture, the abstract desire to get somewhere, the wind that blows us in a certain direction, while clear goals are like tools–they’re means to an end.
