Summer activities that could affect people’s tax returns next year

While summer is a time for fun, it’s never the wrong time to thinking about taxes – and some of those summer activities could have an impact. Here are a few summertime activities and tips on how taxpayers should consider them for filing season.

Marriage

Wedding season is upon us, and newlyweds can make their tax filing easier by taking two simple steps now:

  • First, report any name change to the Social Security Administration.
  • Next, notify the United States Postal Service, employers and the IRS of any address change. To officially change their mailing address with the IRS, taxpayers must compete and submit Form 8822, Change of Address. See page 2 of the form for detailed instructions.

Summer camp

If a taxpayer is sending a child to summer camp, the cost may count toward the Child and Dependent Care Credit.

Business travel

Kids may have the summer off, but parents generally don't – and business travel happens year-round. Tax deductions are available for certain people who travel away from their home or main place of work for business reasons. Whether a business traveler is away for a few nights or all summer long, it’s important for them to remember the tax rules related to business travel.

Part-time work

While summertime and part-time workers may not earn enough to owe federal income tax, they should file a tax return to get any refund they may be owed. Part-time and seasonal workers can visit IRS.gov to learn more about who should file a tax return.

Home improvements

The IRS has information to help taxpayers take advantage of potential tax benefits for home improvements. If taxpayers make qualified energy efficient improvements to their home after Jan. 1, 2023, they may qualify for a tax credit up to $3,200. They can claim the credit for improvements made through 2032.

These types of improvements include Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credits for things like water heaters, exterior windows and doors and heating and air conditioning installations.

Residential Clean Energy Credits are available for taxpayers who install solar water heaters, fuel cells and battery storage or solar, wind and geothermal power generation. Taxpayers can visit the Home Energy Tax Credits page on IRS.gov to learn more.

How do you define Perseverance?

Years ago I started using the made-up word “Stick-to-it-ive-ness” to describe what dictionary.com describes as perseverance:

continued effort to do or achieve something despite difficulties, failure, or opposition : the action or condition or an instance of persevering : steadfastness.

What makes this such a valuable skill or trait?

What I know for sure is that no matter how much success you’ve attained, how many goals you achieved, or dreams you've manifested, there are always barriers to overcome, challenges to navigate, and self-doubt to process as we move through life.

If we're living creatively, with deliberate intention, we will always be uplevelling. And, when we do, we will encounter lots of times when we think we're not good enough, or we don't have what it takes.

Or maybe, everything's going along just fine, and then "Wham!" you get surprised by something you never saw coming. Then you catch yourself scrambling to try to fix everything so that doesn't happen again.

The truth is, we don't need “fixing”. We may be experiencing momentary periods of disconnection or temporary misalignment with our higher self. This doesn't mean we're "broken".

We always have the potential to be self-observant, self-developing, self-expressing in new ways. No one way is better than any other.

That being said, when you are living consciously with intention you “know’ when you are out of alignment. You can feel it.

The trouble is that most of us either 1) don’t create time + practices to check-in with ourselves and with spirit (as always, use whatever word feels comfortable for you to define a higher power) or 2) we ignore or don’t trust what we see, hear, feel or sense.

In the book Finding Water, author Julia Cameron reminds us that we can always find inspiration when the river appears to have run dry - when we are tired, disappointed or distracted. Finding water is perseverance. It’s stick-to-it-ive-ness, as I like to call it.

She reminds us that one of the ways we gain strength and support for the journey through life is in a community of like-minded humans. Frequency 432 is one of these communities.

Our upcoming Higher Vibes Mastery 12 Day recalibration is designed specifically to guide you to “Find Water”. It’s an opportunity to connect and to practice checking in with yourself and spirit. Now preparing to convene our 3rd group since we began in December ‘23, we’ve built a supportive framework for everyone who comes to reaffirm their daily-ish practice of connecting to self + spirit using a curated collection of tools (including VIBE 432 Energy Cards). Our collective intention is to uplevel - to raise our vibration-- and to use that inspiration to be fully expressed so that we can lead more fulfilled and fruitful lives in alignment with the highest good of all.

And we're deliberately repeating this experience every season this year so we build up our perseverance.

If you don't have a regular practice and you're feeling like you could use a dose of "stick-to-it-ive-ness", I hope you’ll consider joining us. We begin again June 20th. Message me, Nanette Saylor, nanette@wisewellwomen.com or Hattie Parker, cosmicsavvy@gmail.com for an update and invitation.

Cosmic Mojo: “Je T’aime -- Sentiments of Love”

QUESTION: Can you guess what this is? ANSWER: the above is a refrigerator magnet. It is the replication of a

wall displayed in a lovely Paris community garden. The site name in French is: “Je t’aime” (Translated = I love

you). The wall displays the phrase “I love you” in 250 of the over 7000 worldwide languages.

I recently returned from my bucket list trip to Paris. While there I had the opportunity to enjoy this sweet garden. The magnet is intended as a gift for Jill DiSalvo, the founder to the non-profit Vibration 432, Inc.

Vibration 432 hz. (the frequency of the sound that vibrates to the energy of love) is not included on this wall. And, however, I can’t help but think how appropriate it would be as it would be as a universal unifying contribution to the theme. Numbers and energy concepts are shared by all cultures.

Mental Strength Perseverance Practice

Jupiter, in Mentally Flexible Gemini June 2024 to June 2025

The following quotation is a powerful expression of my esteemed colleague Nanette Saylor’s wisdom. It is a quote from her article found in this very newsletter. “What I know for sure is that no matter how much success you’ve attained, how many goals you achieved, or dreams you've manifested, there are always barriers to overcome,  challenges to navigate, and self-doubt to process as we move through life.”

Nanette goes on in her article to encourage you to join us on June 20 for our upcoming 3 rd session of the High VIBE Mastery - 12 Day program. June is an astrologically most interesting and promising month to be choosing to focus on goals, wishes, hopes and dreams. It offers us the gift of mental fortitude. I will explain.

We begin the month with Jupiter in Gemini, the planet of luck, being energetically 120 degrees away from Pluto in Aquarius, the planet of transformation. This relationship called a “Trine” is VERY positive. Thus, when we are aware any choice to focus on realizing a wish, hope, or dream naturally includes an element of being transformational, we can affirm this is an excellent time to affirm or reaffirm making meaningful changes. Jupiter influences “things” to be bigger than they ordinarily would be. Thus, when being aware that Jupiter stays in this sign for year and Pluto being in Aquarius 40 years we gain a perspective that, if of interest, this is a time to think in big broad brush strokes.

My Personal Example

The process of writing this column has been delightfully helpful to me as the discipline required forces me to be

more attentive to the stars than my somewhat lacking attention to detail self might naturally be. So here’s my

June 2024 scenario. I am 78 years old. Jupiter will return to where it is this coming week in 12 years. I will be

90 years old. I will choose to make the coming week a time to think in very big broad strokes.

QUESTION/REFLECTION: Where do you see yourself being in 12 years and what can you do now to make

this the best of possible scenarios?

In Conclusion: A Call for Love, Light and Healing Strength

While in the process of writing this article I received a call from Nanette to learn she has experienced the total

unexpected passing of a family member who was only in midlife. It was a complete shock. I invite you in the spirit of our loving Vibration 432 community to join with me in sharing and sending love and light to her.
