Books as Windows and Mirrors with Nic Dufort

Nic Dufort of Random House
We were thrilled to welcome Nic Dufort of Penguin Random House Kids in our store last week to teach educators and our staff about the concept of Books as Windows and Mirrors, and to discuss her favorite new books that feature the concept. For those who don't know, the idea is all about readers finding books that don't reflect their voices and experiences (MIRRORS), but rather give them a chance to hear and see outside ideas that may be foreign to their life experiences (WINDOWS). To see Nic's full list, CLICK HERE, and don't forget to check out our own Bookie Midge's list of her favorite new books that feature the same concept HERE. As always, thank you to everyone who attended our event and thank you to Nic for presenting and for all the great prizes and books we gave out!

Nic Stone
Our staff learned about this book at Nic Dufort's book talk. Nic Stone, author of DEAR MARTIN, returns to offer us this unique look at race, wealth, poverty, and love. Rico works at a gas station and thinks she sold a winning lottery ticket to 'the little old church lady' - who hasn't claimed her prize. Can Rico find her and change her own luck? Only if she can get help from wealthy Zan, who knows more than he's letting on...
