Fisher House Kansas City Celebrates 4 Years of Service

Nearly 3,000 Room Nights Provided

This October, Fisher House Kansas City proudly marks four years of opening its doors to our nation’s heroes and their loved ones. Since 2020, the House has provided a warm, welcoming “home away from home” for thousands of military and veteran families, ensuring that no one has to face medical challenges alone.

For families traveling to Kansas City to be near their loved ones receiving care at the VA Medical Center, the Fisher House has been more than just a place to stay—it has been a place of comfort, support, and healing. With private suites, shared kitchens and living spaces, and a community built on compassion, Fisher House has become a vital resource in moments of uncertainty.

We invite you to join us in celebrating this milestone on Wednesday, October 1st, from 3 PM to 7 PM. Refreshments will be served. Together, we’ll reflect on the impact made over the past four years and look forward to the future as we continue our mission of serving military and veteran families when they need it most.

The Fall Season is upon us at Fisher House Kansas City.

Making fall traditions resonate for our guests.

It's Harvest time at the House, and that means one of our fun, family favorite holidays is almost upon us. Halloween takes on a special meaning when our troops are far from home. Even while deployed, many service members and their families find creative ways to keep the tradition alive—decorating barracks with makeshift pumpkins, dressing up in improvised costumes, or organizing candy exchanges that bring laughter and comfort in unfamiliar places. These small traditions create joy and a sense of normalcy, even during challenging times.

At Fisher House Kansas City, we carry that spirit forward. As Halloween nears, we keep seasonal treats on hand for our guest families—especially for the children whose parents may be receiving care at the VA Medical Center and are unable to take them trick-or-treating. We also take particular joy in decorating around the holidays. It’s a simple way to bring smiles, preserve tradition, and remind families that even here, far from their home routines, there are moments of sweetness and togetherness.

If you want to drop off treats this holiday, reach out and let us know!

The Healing Power of Game Day

At Fisher House Kansas City, we know that sports have a way of lifting spirits and bringing people together. Whether it’s cheering for the Chiefs on Sunday or following our hometown college teams—the KU Jayhawks, K-State Wildcats, or Mizzou Tigers—game days become more than just entertainment; they’re a source of healing, laughter, and connection for our families.

We love to watch our guests gather to watch the big plays unfold, sharing stories, high-fives, and of course, game day treats that make it feel like home.

This month, we’re spotlighting a special recipe from Food Network Chef Geoffrey Zakarian—his famous Game Day Chili, a perfect dish to enjoy while rooting for your favorite team. Because at Fisher House, every touchdown and every bite is another way we build comfort, community, and hope.

Volunteers Big & Small

At Fisher House Kansas City, we love it when volunteers bring their families along—especially their kids. It’s inspiring to see young people learning firsthand the importance of giving back to those who gave so much for us.

Moments like these not only brighten the day for our guest families but also help nurture the next generation of community leaders who understand the true meaning of service and gratitude.
