Happy Halloween!

I hope that everyone is doing well as we move into fall and hopefully past the troubles of the last couple of years. If you need assistance with Ida recovery, or anything related to unemployment, food assistance, or any state agency, please contact my office at hse091@legis.la.gov or leave a message at (504) 895-2526.

And this Saturday, if you are looking for a fun event for the kids or an event to donate to, check out Dr. Chanel Payne's trunk or treat!

NOVEMBER 13TH ELECTION

In just a few short weeks, the city will elect many local officials, and the entire state will vote on four proposed constitutional amendments. I am strongly supporting and endorsing current Councilmember Jay Banks for District B, and Councilmember Kristin Palmer for At-Large. I know both of them well and have worked with them closely the past few years. Both are extremely down to earth and hardworking, and have wonderful, compassionate staff. I supported Jay when he first ran in 2017 - before I ever knew him - and am proud to continue to support this homegrown, local official. Kristin set up the first - and many more! - food drives all across the city at the beginning of covid, and established the sandbag giveaways during last year's numerous storms. Kristin was also the first official on the ground post-Ida, helping with food and water and ice, and along with Jay, inspecting nursing homes and senior living facilities. Both are true public servants, and I know that whatever happens in our turbulent city, we can count on them to be there with us and for us.
If KGP has on her bandana, you know it's serious!

There are also 4 proposed constitutional amendments on the November 13 ballot. All 4 of these involve taxes and yes, they are a bit confusing. I've included a flier with information from the non-partisan PAR Louisiana below, or you can check out the always informative Louisiana Budget Project for a deeper dive. 2022 LEGISLATION

I am working on potential legislation for next year right now. Please be in touch if you have ideas! Although I tend to focus on issues involving women, children, health care, voting, housing, CJR, and the like, you know that I am always open to creative challenges.

The legislature will also be redrawing districts next year with the new census numbers. Click here and here for some articles on what's going on with that, and some groups that are actively involved in redistricting. This special redistricting session will be in February.

WHAT ELSE HAVE I BEEN UP TO??

I juggle many hats nowadays, and there is always something going on! Between zooming about amendments and potential legislation, I held a fundraiser for our bayou friends for my birthday; was voted the best legislator by Gambit readers (for the second time :); I was on CNN a few times during Ida (yes, it was surreal); I fussed at our AG about his bad covid decisions along with my friend Rep. Freeman; have been continually despondent (yet always working) over the treatment of women in our state; and joined the lawsuit (as a lawyer) against the state for ending federal unemployment benefits early and in the middle of hurricane season.

I also rode in Krewe of Boo this past Saturday night - the first parade I've ever ridden in!

The news link on my website is updated as articles post, and of course I post to Instagram and Twitter regularly.

I still work regularly as a practicing lawyer, as the dogs have not yet started pulling their weight. Beau has been working hard to learn his duties as assistant art gallery director.

I am planning to order some new baby blue ML swag for the holidays - keep your eyes peeled.
Boo and vote and boo and vote.
