The Triduum of All Hallows Eve, All Saints Day, and All Souls Day, collectively known as Hallowtide, commemorates the faithful who have entered eternity before us.
All Hallow's Eve, traditionally remembered with a Vigil Mass and celebrated culturally with various festivities, prepares us for today's great Solemnity of All Saints, a day when we honour and celebrate the souls in Heaven, both those who are listed in the Church's canon of saints and those who are not.
On All Souls Day, we pray for all the faithful departed, especially those who may be in need of further purification to enter fully into God's presence.
Hallowtide reminds us too that our earthly journey, with its trials and sufferings, is brief in light of the eternal home of ever-deepening joy and wonder to which we're all called, through God's grace and mercy. Accordingly, we prepare to meet Our Lord by praying for one another, by conforming our lives to Christ, and by following the examples of the Saints and seeking their intercession.
Lord, as the saints in Heaven adore You for eternity,
I beg for their intercession.
Saints of God, please come to my aide. Pray for me and bring to me the grace I need to live a holy life in imitation of your own lives.
Amen.
