Volunteers in Medicine (VIM) is for the community by the community. VIM is a very unique nonprofit in that we are truly a FREE clinic. We are not a federally qualified center and do not charge for services. An interprofessional team of staff and volunteers provide medical, dental, behavioral health and specialty services at no cost to the patient.
The Coronavirus pandemic has caused a change in the lives of all Americans. VIM is seeing an influx in new patients this year, and will continue to expand services based on the needs of our community and serve as the safety-net provider for those falling between the cracks of the healthcare system. Patients earn too much to qualify for Medicaid but not enough to afford private insurance. Many new patients have lost their health insurance during the pandemic due to losing their job, moved from full time to part time, on unemployment for the first time, and small businesses have closed.
Many are sharing the following stories:
“The ER referred me to VIM for my severe dental pain and I finally got help.”
“I stopped taking my insulin until I found VIM and they provide it free to me.”
“Counseling at VIM has helped me get through the many struggles each day.”
“I was nervous to go in person but felt very safe and they found a women's health issue hopefully before it is cancer.”
This is a critical time for the health and wellness of our community. The underserved populations are most vulnerable especially during a pandemic. VIM provides a comprehensive healthcare program to ensure ALL patients receive quality compassionate care including free imaging, free lab testing, free medications, and free preventative services. The staff and volunteers not only provide health services but also hope and healing.
VIM would not be able to assist our neighbors in need without "Hometown Heroes". We thank all the volunteers and supporters that understand our mission of keeping our community healthy, well and working. Thanks for being a Hometown Hero!
Warm Wishes from VIM. Stay healthy and well!
