FACULTY/STAFF NOTES
* Sagar Samtani, assistant professor in the Information Systems and Decision Sciences Department, was awarded the prestigious two-year, $175,000 National Science Foundation CISE Research Initiation Initiative grant. Often referred to as the "Mini-CAREER Award," the grant helps researchers achieve research independence during the formative years of their new faculty positions. Samtani began teaching in the Muma College of Business this semester.
* Jackie Reck, associate dean, was cited in a Forbes article for her "groundbreaking" research. The article, titled "The Four Letters Transforming The Municipal Bond Market and Government Finance," discussed the need for interconnectivity in government accounting. The research involved analysis of annual financial reports from every U.S. state.
* Manish Agrawal, chair of the Information Systems and Decision Sciences Department, was featured in a recent edition of BSchools in a listing titled "Online MBA in Cybersecurity Faculty to Know." The profile said "Dr. Agrawal is considered an expert in cybersecurity, social media, software quality and decision fusion." The same feature listed the Muma College of Business in the top 10 of business colleges offering MBA students a concentration in cybersecurity. To read more, click here.
 

ALUMNI NOTES

* Brooke Simpson ('04, Accounting) was named partner with blumshapiro, the largest regional business advisory firm based in New England with offices in Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Simpson, a CPA, will join the international tax practice's Boston office.
* Reed Hammond ('08, MBA) was recently promoted to chief executive officer of Frankfort Regional Medical Center in Kentucky. He previously served as the chief operating officer of the 359-bed hospital. Prior to that, Hammond worked as a golf pro for several years.
* Andrew Prilliman ('07, Marketing, Finance) was promoted to president and CEO of the Tampa Bay office for the National Christian Foundation, the eighth largest U.S. charity. He previously served as the executive vice president of the organization.
* Kayla Jacobson ('14, Marketing) has started a new position as a marketing and business development specialist at Community Health Centers of Pinellas County. She is a former Muma College of Business 25 Under 25 honoree.
* Jim C. Congelio Sr. ('76, Accounting) will head up the new Tampa office of Sterling Seacrest, a property and casualty and surety company serving clients in the construction industry throughout Florida. He has more than 30 years' experience in sales and underwriting roles.
* Jan. 23-24, the second annual Synapse Summit takes place at Amalie Arena in Tampa. The two-day event examines an all-encompassing, interactive and flexible methodology for building, facilitating and revealing the entrepreneurial ecosystem of Florida. To register, click here.
* Feb. 5, 8:30-10 a.m., the Muma College of Business's Conversation with a CEO featuring Paul Reilly, chairman and CEO of Raymond James Financial, is set to take place in the Center for Advanced Medical Learning Simulation, 124 S. Franklin St., in downtown Tampa. Watch for registration details.
* Feb. 6-7, the inaugural Florida Supply Chain Summit, coordinated by the USF Center for Supply Chain Management & Sustainability, will be held at Disney's Contemporary Resort in Orlando. For more information about supply chain sustainability, click here. To register, click here.
* Feb. 21, 2:15 p.m., the Muma College of Business Thought Leader Series will feature Netflix co-founder and serial entrepreneur Marc Randolph, who will discuss the origins of Netflix and how it has grown to change the culture of popular entertainment. The lecture series, which was established to draw nationally recognized speakers, innovators, idea generators, entrepreneurs, philanthropists, authors and "turn-around artists" in business and industry, will take place in the Oval Theater in the Marshall Student Center. The event is free and open to the public, but registration is required. * March 26, 1-6 p.m. and March 27, 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m., the USF Sport & Entertainment Analytics Conference will be held at the USF Gibbons Alumni Center. Sponsored by the Vinik Sport & Entertainment Management Program and Ticketmaster, the conference will feature discussions on the important role of analytics in the global sport and entertainment industries. Key leaders will share insights that promote education, growth and innovation with a theme of "Storytelling with Data."
