Dear Friends of Habitat,

Habitat for Humanity homeowners all across Nevada County are preparing for Christmas. They're putting up lights, planning for family visits, and wrapping gifts.

It is because of your generosity that these families have a safe place to build lasting memories. More than that, they have a stable place to call home.

We can and should do more for other families in our community who are hoping that someday they'll have a safe, decent, and affordable house. For them, things are much more chaotic and stressful. Their rent is incredibly high. The local median home rental costs $2,755 monthly, and a two-bedroom apartment averages $2,136 monthly.

The exciting news is that we can address the housing affordability crisis by working together. We recently sent a winter appeal letter to start a new campaign to build four houses. You can read the full letter here and join us in the campaign! The exciting news is that we've broken ground and things are underway.

Breaking Ground on New Beginnings

Construction Site Work Begins!

We’re excited to share some fantastic news: Pre-construction site work has officially begun on our next build site. This property will soon accommodate four beautiful new homes, providing first-time home buyers the opportunity to achieve their dream.

On Wednesday, December 4th, we rolled up our sleeves and got to work—starting with the removal of tree stumps. It was a busy, rewarding day, and we’re thrilled to see this project come to life. Our very own Construction Manager, Ian was especially excited to trade his desk for a hard hat, diving headfirst back into the construction mode with a big smile.

This milestone is just the beginning of a transformative journey for these homes and the families who will one day call them their own. We’ll be sharing updates every step of the way, so stay tuned for behind-the-scenes looks at the progress, key milestones, and opportunities for you to get involved.

Together, we’re building more than houses—we’re building hope and a stronger community.

Thank you for your support, and let’s keep the momentum going as we turn this vision into reality!

This Holiday Season, Give the Gift of Impact

We all know someone who’s impossible to shop for. Maybe they already have everything, or they’re downsizing and prefer not to add more stuff to their lives. This holiday season, why not give a gift that truly matters—one that celebrates your loved ones while making a meaningful impact in the community?

Give a Gift in Honor of Someone Special

Instead of braving the cold to shop for another gift, honor your friend or family member by making a donation to a cause they care about. It’s the perfect way to celebrate the season of giving: thoughtful, impactful, and clutter-free!

Your honored friend will receive a personalized holiday message from us, including a letter sharing how their gift is making a difference. It’s a heartfelt way to show them they’re helping to build a stronger community while avoiding the pressure of finding “the perfect item.”

How to Send a Dedication Donation:

  1. Mail a check or donate online.
  2. Include the name and address of the person you’re honoring.
  3. We’ll send them a special holiday card with details about the difference they’re making.

This season, celebrate the true spirit of the holidays with a gift that gives back. Together, let’s spread joy and support the causes that matter most.

Ready to get started? Visit www.nchabitat.org/donate to donate online, or if you prefer to mail a check, just send it to: Nevada County Habitat for Humanity, P.O. Box 2997, Grass Valley, CA. Please include the info on this form if paying by check.

Street of Dreams Event Volunteer Appreciation

Last week, we had the privilege of honoring the incredible volunteers who made the 2024 Street of Dreams Annual Fundraiser and Auction such a resounding success.

This year’s event was a true testament to what we can achieve when we come together with a shared purpose. Thanks to your efforts, we raised enough funds to cover 60% of Angel’s future home. This accomplishment is not just about building a house; it’s about creating a stable foundation where dreams can thrive and lives can flourish.

As we reflect on this milestone, we are reminded of the power of community and the difference we can make together. On behalf of everyone at Nevada County Habitat for Humanity, thank you for being an invaluable part of this journey. Here’s to building more homes and inspiring hope in 2024 and beyond.

He was a volunteer for the ReStore from early October to late November 2024. He took on the huge task of organizing our electrical area, and I know many of you would agree that he did an amazing job! Tye is an example of someone who wanted to do something great for the ReStore while he was here, and boy did he!
