Working together to improve the diagnosis, treatment and
quality of life for all those affected by arrhythmias
STARS , Arrhythmia Alliance and AF Association
would sincerely like to thank all our supporters for helping us
raise awareness through information and education to those who
need it most. We would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas
and a HeartSafe New Year.

In 2020, we will continue to work hard to ensure everyone who is diagnosed with
an irregular heart rhythm receives the support and care that they need.
Your assistance in this effort is greatly appreciated.

Many people now donate to charity rather than sending Christmas cards to their loved ones. Not only does it help us, but it is also good for the environment! If you would like to make a donation, please select your chosen charity below:
AF Association Global AF Aware Week 2019
Thank you for supporting this year’s
AF Association Global AF Aware Week!
Thank you to everyone who has shown their support for AF Association Global AF Aware Week 2019!

The annual awareness week, held Monday, November 18 – Sunday, November 24, 2019 worked to raise awareness of our DETECT, PROTECT, CORRECT, PERFECT Campaign with a focus on the detection of Atrial Fibrillation (AF).

AF affects approximately 6.1 million Americans, resulting in over 750,000 hospitalizations and 130,000 deaths each year, with a cost of $6 billion annually. It is projected to impact over 12 million people by 2030.

GAFAW 2019 saw participation worldwide with events and awareness being conducted as far as Hong Kong, New Zealand and Canada.
Mobile Pulse Checks for local non-profits
The US office kicked off GAFAW 2019 by offering FREE pulse checks to the staff and teams at fellow local non-profits. Three locations were attended, all of which received a 30-45-minute session where attendees could receive the mobile one lead EKG and blood pressure screening.
'Know Your Pulse' with the Hilton Head Island Rec Center
A Know Your Pulse event was hosted at the Hilton Head Island Recreation Centre. We attended from 11:00am – 1:00pm and provided FREE heart rate and rhythm screenings to the staff and class participants entering/exiting the building.
'Winter Wellness' with USCB and DHEC
As part of our internship program with University of South Carolina Beaufort, our current US intern Caitlyn planned and hosted a winter wellness event at the Bluffton Campus. Students were provided with free heart rate and rhythm screenings as well as general health information provided by DHEC, including sexual health and flu shots.
Thank you to everyone who attended and participated in our local events,
we greatly appreciate our community partners and all those who supported
our annual awareness week.
The Community Corner

National Caregivers Month was in November. Since at least 2000, presidents have designated November as National Family Caregivers Month to honor the more than 40 million caregivers across the country who support aging parents, ill spouse or other loved ones with disabilities who remain at home.

Our Community Education Manager, Sharonica Gavin, worked with Memory Matters providing caregivers &
staff with free pulse checks. We are extremely grateful that we were able to partner with Memory Matters to ensure that caregivers are actively participating in self care. It is of vital importance that those caring for others take time to care for themselves as well.

Our first 'Donuts for Defibs' fundraiser was a great success! We partnered with Duck Donuts, Hilton Head Island located on William Pkwy to raise funds for a life-saving Automated External Defibrillator (AED) to be placed in the community, increasing the chance of survival of out-of-hospital Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA).

Thank you for supporting our efforts to make the community of Hilton Head #HeartSafe. To learn more about our Defibs Save Lives program, visit

Being able to connect with other patients and exchange information keeps me motivated on the days I’m more symptomatic than others. Finding others suffering from Inappropriate Sinus Tachycardia or providers that are well versed in treatment options can be just as challenging... Read More.
