December Issue 20 16
A.S. Government
A.S. Government Corner

Hi, Spartans!

In November, the A.S. Board launched various initiatives to both serve and address the needs of our Spartans. We continue to be committed to ensuring that our campus community thrives and stays united.

We passed a resolution in support of changing Columbus Day to Indigenous Peoples' Day to express our solidarity with our Native American student population. We are following up with our university and the California State University system to make this a reality for our campus and our community.

Board members took part in our campus community dialogues. We encourage all of you to continue to engage with one another.

On November 15th, the Board issued a statement of solidarity with the Standing Rock Lakota Sioux Tribe in the fight against the Dakota access pipeline. Click here to read the statement.

If you are a Eco Pass Clipper Card user, you should have received an email from A.S. Transportation Solutions and members of the Board requesting you to express your discontent with the $3 fee that VTA is implementing for all new and replacement Clipper Cards. We need your help with contacting our local representatives!  For more information on this campaign, please contact Transportation Solutions at transportation@sjsu.edu.

We learned that there is a potential for a significant CSU tuition increase and we are working to stop it, but we cannot do it without you!  Please come and voice your opinion at our open forum sessions. Food will be provided. The dates are:

  • Monday, 12/5 at 2:00pm, Diaz Compean Student Union - Meeting Room 2B
  • Tuesday 12/6 at 5:00pm, Diaz Compean Student Union - Meeting Room 4A
  • Wednesday 12/7, 11:00am, Diaz Compean Student Union - Meeting Room 3B

Follow our social media pages and look out for #ASTipTuesdays to find out more about the board and what they are up to. Good luck with finals! Spartan Up!

ACUI Tomorrow's Tradition Conference

Associated Students participated and led many discussions at the Association of College Union International Regional I Conference, Tomorrow's Tradition. From November 4th - 6th, attendees listened to keynote speakers, educational sessions, and networked with other community leaders.

Director of Intercultural Affairs, spoke about resources for undocumented students. A.S. Executive Director Tari Hunter presented on Black Lives Matter.
