Clay Squared December Newsletter

As we go through this busy holiday season, we have been reflecting on how important it is for us, here at Clay Squared to Infinity, to not only give physical gifts but also to give the gifts of time

and energy.
Volunteering has long been a big part of our lives. We both were encouraged, as children, to be involved in many organizations, from    4-H to Boy Scouts.
These days we give back by spending a lot of our time as volunteers with local arts organizations. Layl is the Vice President of the WARM (Women's Art Resources of MN) Board. WARM was an integral part of Layl's career when she came to Minnesota. Early on, she benefited as a protégée in the WARM mentorship program.  Now she gives back by serving on the board and working on various projects.  Most recently she has been organizing their next member show exhibition at the Robbin Gallery which opens January 5th.
Josh has been engaged in the local NE Minneapolis arts community for the past 20 years. Currently he is working with the Northeast Minneapolis Arts District as its board chair. Their main goal is to tell the story of the artists of NE Minneapolis and to set up the structure of a sustainable arts district. He also serves as a board member of the Tile Heritage Foundation, a national group for research and preservation of ceramic surfaces.
We hope you have an amazing holiday season and you get to enjoy your family, friends and community.

Updating a kitchen with the bones of a 1904 Bungalow is a very rewarding task. The homeowners created a space that was more welcoming and functional with updated electrical outlets and lighting and handmade features throughout the space. They choose 2x4" Oatmeal tiles with random accents of both Cosmic Spots and colored field tile to create a multi-mix random pattern.

Introduction to Tea

tea class
Clay Squared is obsessed with tea! Michael Flora has been a big influence on our tea drinking over the past three years. He is by all accounts the biggest tea aficionado we have ever met.  Michael grew up drinking green tea. In his twenties he studied Chinese tea with tea master Roy Fong in San Francisco, CA. In 2010, he hiked through Yunnnan, China (often considered the "homeland of tea"), drank tea in Sichuan's famous teahouses, and visited the tea gardens of Darjeeling. In addition to studying the "art of tea," he enjoys sharing his passion with others.

Michael is offering an introductory class to the world of tea here at Clay Squared. Topics include: history of tea as a beverage; overview and tasting of the main varietals; Chinese tea ceremony; and more.
