Hello Sierra Nevada Region Members, Friends and Family!

Happy Holidays! Thank you for all that you all do to make women and girls dreams come true!

Cue the hustle and bustle of the season! We know it’s easy to get caught up in the chaos, and

that there are a million things to do right now and simply not enough time to do them. Once

you've gotten your holiday shopping done; you can make time for more joy. I can’t believe

2025 is just around the corner! Now that the November 15 Live Your Dream

Awards application deadline has passed, it’s time to select your recipients! Check out SIA’s

great resources to make it a smooth process:

  • How To: Select Recipients
  • Online Judging Resource
  • Sample Judging Invitation
  • Confidentiality Form
  • Judges’ Evaluation Form
  • Sample Recipient Letter
  • Sample Non-recipient Letter

As this year begins to close, it's the perfect time to showcase the incredible impact your club has

had on women and girls in the community. Don't miss the opportunity to spread festive cheer and

highlight the remarkable work your club has accomplished.

Tips to weave your club's impact into its heartfelt holiday messages:

Countdown of Best Moments

A twist on a year-in-review, consider creating a countdown to the new year and post highlights,

events, and encouraging moments throughout the past year. Mix content like photos, videos, and testimonials to keep it fresh—prompt followers and members to share and comment on their favorite memories. A great number to start would be a week out, 12 days, or if you are feeling ambitious, try 20 days!

Share Inspiring Stories

Forge a deeper connection with your community by sharing member spotlights, award recipient features, and stories of community engagement. These narratives can be relatable and touching. It fosters a sense of unity and shared purpose.

Spread Gratitude

Express gratitude towards your club members, community members, sponsors, and partners. Share testimonials, success stories, or quotes that highlight the positive impact of their contributions. This not only shows appreciation but also strengthens relationships.

Sneak Peeks

Tease your club’s plans and goals for the upcoming year. Share some projects you have coming up in the new year and what you hope to achieve. Building anticipation can generate excitement throughout the community and create a sense of unity as everyone looks forward to the future. Are you looking for some input? Ask a fun question like “What would you love to do for women and girls in 2025?”.

Changes to Club Eligibility for Canva for Nonprofits

For some time, SIA has encouraged clubs to apply for the Canva for Nonprofit program to receive free access to premium Canva features.

Unfortunately, Canva has recently changed its eligibility criteria to exclude subordinate organizations that do not have their own recognition of 501(c)(3) tax exemption from the IRS. Read about the changes to Canva’s nonprofit program and how that will impact club eligibility.

Trauma-Informed Practices

Want to learn more about trauma-informed practices and how to best support program

participants who have experienced trauma? Elaine Miller-Karas, author, social worker and co-

SOLT for December

The LYD online deadline has passed, and many clubs will be making decisions on who their awardee or

awardees will be. Use this time to keep your club members informed of the decision process. Share whether

you use outside judges, such as college professors, librarians, teachers, business owners and how you recruit them. Share the process of the scoring, and other information that is available to the LYD Coordinator. This is an ongoing training for the next coordinator and makes the members feel included. This might just get the next coordinator to jump forward ready to serve in this leadership position. Good Luck!

Happy Holidays,

I hope everyone is enjoying the holidays with family and friends. I know this is a very busy time of year. I have included some friendly reminders and upcoming deadlines for the Live Your Dream Awards. Please take a few minutes to read the below message.

Thank you,

Please be sure to follow the online reporting form process! Last year, a handful of clubs did not report this way and, therefore, were not included as participating. Don’t let your hard work go to waste! Once you have successfully submitted your club report, you will receive a copy in an email confirmation. If you don’t receive a confirmation email, please email program@soroptimist.org right away.

If you are a new club in the region that wants to give a Live Your Dream Award this year, please apply for the new club funding! You must submit the form at this link with an eligible Live Your Dream applicant by February 1st if you would like to receive the $1,000 for your first award: https://form.jotform.com/liveyourdream/LYDA-new-club-funding-form

As you move through the judging process, be sure to use the LYD Toolkit. It has lots of templates and resources to assist you through the process. https://soroptimist.imgix.net/05-for-members/Program_Resources/live-your-dream-awards-club-resources/club-participation-toolkit-north-america.pdf

Your Clubs 1st place LYD Awardee needs to be submitted prior to the February 1st deadline, so it can be included in the District and Region level judging. Please let me know if you have extra applicants to share or if you need extra applicants. LiveYourDream@Soroptimistsnr.org

Happy Holidays,

Billie
