The A.S. Board of Directors is pleased to announce the selection of Interim Associate Executive Director, Cathy Avila-Linn! She brings over 15 years of experience in higher education and leadership. She supports diversity, inclusiveness, and community engagement. Cathy has worked with the Center for Community Engagement in the Office of the Chancellor, California State University System, Santa Clara University, Stanford University, and most recently, the César Chávez Community Action Center. Cathy has consulted with the organization and other SJSU campus leaders for over a decade.
Congratulations to the A.S. student employees who are graduating this December! You are leaving your mark here at San José State! We can’t wait to see you make things happen! Thank you for being a Spartan, always and forever.
Dr. Mary Papazian, SJSU President, and Ariadna Manzo, A.S. President, both delivered their Welcome Remarks at the A.S. Scholarship Banquet held early in November. Forty four Spartans received their certificates and had an opportunity to share their stories during the open mic segment of the program. The funds are made available to students for the 2018-2019 academic year. Photos may be viewed
here.
Be on the lookout for A.S. scholarship applications early in the Spring for the 2019-2020 academic year. A call for nominations for A.S. 55 awardees, recognizing up to 55 student leaders who demonstrate an outstanding commitment to SJSU and continually give back to the community, will also begin early in the semester.
The annual A.S. Board of Directors elections will take place this Spring, reflecting new changes to the board structure. If you’re interested in running for student government, be sure to attend one of the candidate orientation and ethics training sessions once the dates are released.
Finals are right around the corner; study hard, but remember to take care of yourself in the process. Be on the lookout for many programs involving tips and tricks to get through the last stretch of the semester with more success and less stress.
Associated Students hopes you end the semester as strongly as you started it! Only a few weeks left to go before a wonderful winter break awaits everyone!
