Greetings!
Happy Holiday Season!!
The countdown is on for me until the winter solstice. It is my favorite day of the year as I know that the days are going to get longer.
Sadly, our Christmas is going to be very small and quiet this year! Sam is in Thailand and Hattie is working in Calgary and only gets 1 day off. Thankfully Ellen will be here! This is the first Christmas without all the kids home.
The weather has been wet but very mild. We had a dusting of snow and then a full day of freezing rain. There was ice everywhere!! Since we have had very warm temperatures and nights have been above freezing. We are muddy and would like a freeze to tighten up this mud.
The cows are doing well on winter range in this mild weather. We are still trying to straggle some that crossed to the neighbor ranch's summer range. However, it is very difficult to get to them. John & Ellen tried once and there were too many trees that have died and blown down that it was merely impossible. Unfortunately, with the short daylight hours and warm, wet weather, it makes the feat much more difficult. It seems to have come down to cutting a trail to them and then riding there to bring them out or travel over to the neighbor's side. Either way it is a two long day journey.
Photo below is our road the day after freezing rain and the truck has chains on all 4 tires.
