Happy Holidays from the Mill Valley School District
Dear Mill Valley School Community!
As we prepare for our winter break and the close of the 2018 year, I hope you will take the time to slow down and appreciate the gifts that we have! From our families to our community, we truly are a lucky group of individuals. Enjoy this small break to spend some time outdoors and relish in the fresh air and beautiful scenery– or gather around the table playing a board game and engaging in conversation with your children, friends, and family!
It is not every day that we can pause and appreciate our gifts, so let’s not take them for granted, but rather seize the day and embrace all that we have to be thankful for!
Wishing each and every one of you a restful, joyous, and healthy winter holiday.

Raquel Rose, Interim Superintendent
Winter Break Date Reminder: December 24, 2018 - January 4, 2019
Transportation Update
In 2015, traffic congestion was identified as a concern for the Mill Valley community. The Mill Valley School District (MVSD), Marin Transit, The County of Marin, and The City of Mill Valley worked collaboratively to address this concern. Strategies that we implemented included staggering the school start and end times and initiating the yellow school bus pilot program.

Since that time, we have seen a decrease in traffic congestion. However, the yellow school bus pilot program has seen a 62% decline in bus pass sales over the 3-years, from 278 one-way passes in year one to 173 one-way passes currently. During this time, we have also noted the negative fiscal impact of the program to the district, which has increased from year one to the current year as the ridership declines. Although the City and County have provided funds to support this program, MVSD is currently evaluating the need to continue the program. Information regarding this pilot will continue to be provided at our school board meetings in the new year.
Annual Board Reorganization
At the December 13, 2018 Mill Valley School District Board meeting, the Board of Trustees, staff, and community recognized Robin Moses as she exited the board after 9 years as a trustee. We thank Robin for all that she has done for our District students, staff, and the Mill Valley community.

Emily Uhlhorn was sworn in as the newest trustee along with Marco Pardi and Todd May, who were sworn in for their second terms. Following the Oath of Office, the annual reorganization of the Board was completed and Trustee Leslie Wachtel was elected as the new President. Trustee Marco Pardi was elected to the Vice-President/Clerk position. We look forward to our future accomplishments as a school district under the support and leadership of our Board of Trustees.
Kiddo! Fundraising Update
A big thank you to the 68% of Mill Valley School District (MVSD) families who have made a donation to Kiddo! for this school year. Kiddo!'s goal is 75% participation by December 31. If they reach it, every student in MVSD will receive a coupon for a free sweet treat. Thanks again to everyone who has supported our district and students through support of Kiddo!
