As we move through the holiday season and look ahead to the new year, it’s natural to think about the road we’ve traveled thus far, and where it’s going to lead us next.
For me the end of the year will bring a profound change. After 13 years, I have decided that it’s time for someone else to take the reins and lead WISHIN into the future.
When I think about the history of WISHIN, I am deeply grateful for the many dedicated, mission-driven colleagues with whom I have worked over the years. They helped ensure that WISHIN grew and evolved to become a unique and indispensable interoperability resource across Wisconsin.
I am grateful to our founders – the Wisconsin Hospital Association, the Wisconsin Medical Society, the Wisconsin Health Information Organization and the Wisconsin Collaborative for Health Care Quality – for understanding the importance of electronic health information exchange before most of us knew what the term meant.
I am grateful to the many volunteer board members who over the years have helped to chart the course that has brought WISHIN to this day.
And of course, I am grateful to our participants, who raised their hands when asked and who did the work to ensure that health information can follow patients wherever they seek care within the WISHIN network.
After 13 years of a daily routine that wasn’t all that routine, my transition to retirement is probably going to be more of a slope than a cliff. Although I am leaving the building, I am sure that WISHIN will never be far from my thoughts.
I have every confidence that my successor, Steve Rottmann, is the right person to lead WISHIN in 2024 and beyond. I hope you will give him your support.
One last time, allow me to wish you and yours a joyous holiday season, and a safe and happy new year. -Joe
