Expiring Waivers for Cross State Lines Licensure Requirements
As states begin to lift their COVID-19 emergency waivers (or let them expire), many of the telehealth and licensure flexibilities enacted at the start of the pandemic are also expiring. The Alliance for Connected Care has created a chart outlining which states have lifted their COVID-19 emergency waivers, and how this has impacted telehealth and licensing flexibilities in each state.
Certified Community Behavioral Health Centers (CCBHCs)
A CCBHC model is designed to ensure access to coordinated, comprehensive behavioral health care. CCBHCs are required to serve anyone who requests care for mental health or substance use regardless of their ability to pay, place of residence, or age - including developmentally appropriate care for children and youth. They have grown from the original 66 in 2017 in 8 states to 500+ clinics operating in 46 states, Puerto Rico, Washington D.C., and Guam. To learn about CCBHCs’ impact on mental health and substance use disorder services, click here for the National Council for Mental Wellbeing’s CCBHCs 2022 Impact Report.

Joint Commission Health Care Equity Resource Center
The Joint Commission has created a resource center to assist organizations in reducing health care disparities and to assist in compliance with the related new standards effective January 2023 applicable to behavioral healthcare organizations providing addictions services, mental health services, eating disorders treatment, services for people with intellectual/developmental delays and organizations providing primary physical health care as part of their service delivery.
Performance Improvement Data Collection
Determining the data to collect for your performance improvement process was one of the accreditation challenges identified and discussed in a recent AG webinar, Navigating the Accreditation Process - Where Organizations Struggle. In addition to data collection requirements from licensing/regulatory bodies, funding sources, and your accrediting body, you might consider collecting data based on stakeholders’ feedback, data related to specific circumstances (e.g., opening a new program, offering services at a new location) and high risk/problem prone situations (e.g., runaways from residential programs, physical injuries requiring emergency medical care.)

AG’s experts can assist with your performance improvement plan/process or any accreditation challenges that you might be struggling with.
