As the year draws to a close and I look back at my 5-years as a Palm Beach County Commissioner, I’m reminded daily of the honor and privilege it is to represent the diverse and vibrant communities that make up our county. Serving the people of Palm Beach has been a rewarding journey filled with challenges, victories, and, most importantly, a deep sense of responsibility.

One of my top policy priorities has been the expansion of the mental health court. It is imperative that we address the intersection of mental health and the criminal justice system, providing compassionate and effective alternatives to incarceration. By investing in mental health resources and support, we prioritize the well-being of our residents and contribute to the overall safety and harmony of our community, which is why I brought together stakeholders and continue to make meaningful progress.

In the realm of technology, I am committed to harnessing the power of artificial intelligence and other technological innovations to enhance traffic flow and streamline government functions. Embracing responsible and ethical use of AI can revolutionize the efficiency of our transportation systems and the delivery of public services, ultimately making life easier for our residents.

Water is the lifeline of our region, and I am dedicated to ensuring its quality and supply. By addressing water quality issues, implementing sustainable water supply solutions, and enhancing drainage systems, we can safeguard our environment for future generations. We must protect our natural resources and preserve the unique beauty that defines Palm Beach County.

Economic opportunities and business growth are pivotal for the prosperity of our community. By fostering an environment that supports entrepreneurship and job creation, we can stimulate economic development while ensuring that our residents have access to fulfilling and stable employment opportunities.

Equally important is our commitment to combating antisemitism. We must stand united against hatred and discrimination in all its forms, actively working to create a community that embraces diversity and celebrates our differences.

Reflecting on the strides we've made over the past year, I am proud of our positive changes. However, our work is far from complete. As we move forward, let us continue to build on our successes, addressing the challenges ahead with determination and a shared vision for a brighter future.

I am grateful for the trust and support of our community. It is an honor to serve as your commissioner, and I am excited about the opportunities that lie ahead. Together, we can create a county that thrives in all aspects, from mental health and technology to water conservation and economic growth. Cheers to 5 years of progress and to the work that still awaits us on the journey ahead.

Here's to a great 2024, and happy holidays!

Yours in service,

Gregg K. Weiss

Thinking of Year-End Donations

Why Now is the Time to Make a Difference

As we approach the end of the year, it's not just about holiday festivities; it's also the perfect time to make a lasting impact by supporting causes you care about. Understanding the motivations behind year-end giving can unlock the key to optimizing your fundraising efforts.

Many individuals wait until the final months to donate to express gratitude to nonprofits close to their hearts. These organizations often take center stage during the year-end, allowing donors to show their support when it matters most.

Year-end giving isn't just about generosity; it's about becoming part of a greater solution. Nonprofits set and publicly announce their fundraising goals, allowing new supporters and loyal donors to witness the impact of their contributions.

Donating to a cause isn't just a selfless act; it boosts feelings of self-worth. Humans inherently feel good when displaying acts of kindness, making charity giving a fulfilling experience.

For those considering tax benefits, December marks the last chance to make charitable donations eligible for tax returns, particularly appealing to major donors.

As the year ends, embrace the spirit of giving this season and be a part of positive change.

Here is a list of how to find local organizations:

1. Guidestar

2. Charity Navigator

*3. Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties

*4. United Way

*3 and 4 are well known organizations that support and collaborate with various nonprofits.

Remember to verify the information from multiple sources and consider reaching out directly to the organizations you're interested in for the most up-to-date details.
