Happy Holidays From BCM!
Learn a Locomotive Lesson
with Jake Speed
Behringer-Crawford Museum presents "Jake Speed Sings Train Songs," a one-hour, live folk music show featuring songs about trains, railroad legends and locomotive lore where each kid will walk away with a lesson on how to make their free harmonica chug like a train!

Jake Speed, a five-time winner of Cincinnati’s Best Folk/Americana Musician, plays guitar, harmonica, washboard, and kazoo all while tap-dancing along to tunes like “Freight Train,” “Waiting for a Train,” “Railroad Bill” and many more classic train songs. Throughout his two performances (11am, 1pm), Speed will regale audiences with his story of Haystack Wiseacre, the legendary boxcar hobo who taught Speed everything he knows about the history and performance of train songs. As Speed retells Haystack’s musical lessons, kids and adults alike will learn instructive tips for how to play the American folk instruments that recreate the chugging of a train.

This kid-friendly show will have the boys and girls singing and dancing along before the grand finale: a Jake Speed-led kid train where young audience members use their free harmonicas to make train-chugging sounds as they march over to the Holiday Toy Trains.
Performance is included with museum admission. Please R.S.V.P. by calling (859) 491-4003.

The Spotlight's on
BCM Curator Jason French
BCM Curator of Collections Jason French is an inspiration to not history lovers, but those with disabilities as well. This month he has been highlighted in the West Central Insider' s first publication, edited and published by the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation in their "Consumer Spotlight."

" Jason has been an example of encouragement and inspiration to me as a vocational rehabilitation counselor. I know that he will continue to move forward and make a difference in his life as well as the lives of others. I look forward to working with him again if the need arises to do so in the future." - Larry McNabb

Jason may have some functional limitations that he encounters on a regular basis, with his diagnosis of blue cone monochromatism in both of his eyes, but he does not let it stand in the way of sharing his wealth of knowledge as a curator here at BCM.
