There is a scene in The Polar Express, my son’s favorite movie, where the young man must proclaim “I believe, I believe, I believe” in order to be granted the joy of Christmas, Santa and the ability to hear the sleigh bell.
2017 has required the same of me. There are times when I couldn’t see the joy, I couldn’t see the hope, and I couldn’t feel the happiness.
Our company lost a dear Friend and Agent, Lynn Caison Johnson, in February. It was a sad sad time for us all. Her spirit and joy was second to none and her comforting presence is missed every single day. I thought those days were the darkest our company would face.
In August we were hit by a catastrophic event to which, during the first 24 hours after Harvey hit, I wasn’t sure we would recover.
Upon reflection of this year, I now realize that during the darkest times….I whispered, “I believe, I believe, I believe”. I must of, because through it all our company has triumphed and thrived. We have endured it and come out the other end, wiser, appreciative and with passion.
Our clients walked along side us and rallied. We have had our best year ever in the market and we have helped our community grow stronger. We held “Shred Day” in Rockport and Port Aransas, donated to “Toys for Tots”, cleaned up debris along Little Bay for “Keep Aransas County Clean”, and donated to the “Blue Crab Restoration” fund. Most importantly, we have opened our doors to businesses needing printing, notarizing, office space and just a place to sit and rest. We helped remove debris from strangers homes and we found homes for people who lost everything. We, as a company, have risen to the challenge.
I’m so very proud of what we stand for.
I believe in Rockport/Fulton, I believe in Port Aransas, I believe in our Coastal Bend, and I believe in Spears & CO.
Thank you for the strength to find the joy, to the helpers and to allow us to be part of this beautiful community.
We are ready for 2018, whatever it may bring.
Merry Christmas,
Alissa Spears
