“Honestly, when I first learned I’d be teaching four-year-olds without computers or devices, I was a bit skeptical. But after diving into their learning standards, I realized the skills they need align perfectly with core concepts of computer science.” -Mike Burton, Trailside Computer Science Teacher and Technology Instructional Technology Coach
Park City preschoolers are learning computer science without computers, and having fun as they are introduced to foundational skills in the classroom. Pre-K students build durable communication and collaboration skills, along with computational thinking, through screen-free activities such as pattern recognition, sequencing, and hands-on problem solving.
PCEF supports Real World Learning throughout our schools, connecting classroom instruction with real world experiences, even for the youngest learners.

The Stop Motion app is a creative tool to help students capture and tell a story frame by frame. | |
"Our students love being directors and set designers for their own stories and seeing them come to life." -Summer Marshall, EHMS Computer Science Integration Coach
Ecker Hill's new MakerSpace, funded by a PCEF Classroom Grant, has become a student favorite. The open, lab-style room is filled with tools, creative supplies, and technology – all things that make hands-on learning accessible and fun.
We recently visited the space and observed a DLI French class creating a short story through stop motion animation. Students utilized skills from across their everyday learning – language arts, arts, technology, math, and world language – to bring their stories to life.
