Looking Back to Move Forward: Our 2023

We completed three cohorts of the Professional Interpreter in Education, the Professional Interpreter in Special Education, and the Professional Translator in Education Certificate courses. Our participants are now part of a large network of professionals with the resources needed to create effective communication bridges in their schools and communities.

A Professional Interpreter in Education Course Participant shared one of the best comments: “Man, I'm so grateful I was able to participate in this course. Sometimes you know what you don't know, and other times you don't even know what you don't know. This course helped me realize how much of my practice (or lack thereof) was in that latter category.”

In collaboration with Partners for Inclusive Communities, we were thrilled to train another cohort of the Arkansas Bilingual Interpreter Credential in Education course. Our new graduates received their interpreter credential endorsed by the Arkansas Department of Education and the Arkansas Department of Human Services' Division of Child Care and Early Childhood Education.

We offered our Foundations of Translation in Education to another group of professionals in South Carolina, making this our 9th cohort. They received practical tools and techniques to provide accurate and complete translation, resources to establish efficient workflows and support to continue growing as translators.

We shared information about the impact of training and qualifications of interpreters and translators with the Arkansas Foreign Language Teacher Association. We were thrilled to also reconnect with some of the pioneers of the field of interpreting in early childhood and K-12 settings.

Another group of dedicated school based bilingual professionals was trained in North Georgia. They received the essential tools and resources to support linguistically diverse families in their school districts including the Code of Ethics and Standard of Practice and Best Practices to support the interpreter-family-educator collaboration.

Emory University invited us to present a Multicultural Health Practices panel to Physician Assistant Program students. For the past six years, we have been sharing information about cultural health practices and tips to collaborate effectively with interpreters and translators.

We were invited to speak to a team of school leaders about the training, selection and professional development of spoken language interpreters and translators. We shared resources to highlight quality language access as a way to support family engagement.

At the 2023 SETESOL Annual Conference, we connected with hundreds of school leaders, educators and families while we shared information about the essential role of school interpreters on linguistically diverse family engagement.

We are delighted to have presented one of a series of hybrid sessions for school-based interpreters in Tennessee. We discussed ethical dilemmas, the creation of glossaries to support the work of interpreters and translators and the importance of skills such as note-taking and simultaneous interpreting.

Our team of trained and qualified translators and interpreters worked diligently to support school districts, nonprofits and universities throughout the nation with vital documents in over 19 languages, and live/virtual interpretation services.

Our work had an immediate impact and through their feedback, our clients expressed how much they trusted us to provide professional language services.

Best Wishes to You in Any and All Languages!
