Here is the latest news on several of our on-going projects.

Ferry Terminals Construction and Maintenance

During the spring and summer months, the ferry terminal upgrades project went out to bid and entered the approvals phase. The bid has now been awarded and we have all the necessary approvals to get started. We anticipate construction to begin shortly after the holidays. There will be no interruptions to service during construction.

At the Bristol Terminal, a passenger waiting area will be built and new fencing and gates installed. Also, in Bristol we are having new pilings installed and some fendering placed on the dock itself.

At the Prudence Island Terminal, timbers on the pilings are being replaced and maintenance will be performed on the ramp and gallows.

The funding source for this project is through Federal Highway Administrations "Ferry Boat Program" and RI Department of Transportation. We are looking forward to having these upgrades completed at both terminals.

Roanoke Update

The vessel Roanoke, which was acquired by PBIT in spring 2023, remains hauled out at the shipyard while being retrofitted for service to Prudence Island.

The first level passenger cabin and second level outdoor deck are currently under construction.

During this process the Roanoke is undergoing multiple Coast Guard inspections.

We currently remain on schedule for the Roanoke to enter service in Summer 2024. We will continue to provide updates as the project progresses.

Prudence Ferry return to Service

The Prudence Ferry will be back on the schedule starting mid-January. During this time, the Herbert C. Bonner will be out for the required bi-annual dry dock inspection. Vehicle space is limited on the Prudence Ferry so please make vehicle reservations well in advance to guarantee your space. Booking in advance also allows us to monitor where ferries are full and extra runs could be added to make more spaces available.

Captains Cards make great gifts!

Give the gift every islander could use! Captains cards are a gift card that never expires and can be loaded with a custom dollar amount. Captains Cards can be purchased at both ferry terminals or ordered online. Cards purchased online typically arrive within 5-7 business days, please note these cards do ship from Prudence Island and weather delays are possible.

2024 Event Cruises

Event Cruise booking is currently closed for the 2024 season due to the on-going vessel and infrastructure upgrades. We will be re-evaluating in late spring 2024 if we are able to open additional dates for the 2024 season. We will provide an update in our next constant contact newsletters.
