Happy Holidays from the BC ELN Team!

2025 Highlights

All Partner Meeting 2025

On December 5th, directors and delegates from BC ELN partner libraries convened in Vancouver for the annual BC ELN All Partner Meeting, hosted at British Columbia Institute of Technology's Downtown Campus.

Anchored in the theme Future Ready Libraries: Transformation through Partnerships, attendees exchanged ideas and strategies for addressing evolving technology and mitigating challenging fiscal circumstances through collaborative services. One highlight of this year’s gathering was a presentation by Brian Lamb, Director of Learning Technology and Innovation at Thompson Rivers University, on the impact of generative AI on instructional services. Many thanks to this year’s participants for their thoughtful insights and engagement, which will help guide BC ELN’s work in the year ahead!

Highlights of BC ELN's Accomplishments in 2025:

STRATEGIC FRAMEWORK

The BC ELN Steering Committee refreshed the 2023-2027 Strategic Framework by adding the following two goals:

  • Investigate the potential of implementing a shared Library Services Platform (LSP) for BC ELN members.
  • Establish the JEDI Collective to advance Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) principles within the BC ELN workplace and across the consortium as a whole.

Advancing work on these Strategic Framework goals, the Steering Committee struck a leadership group to lead a Shared LSP feasibility study, and the BC ELN staff published a Statement on Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion for the BC ELN Office.

ILLUME

Illume underwent infrastructure optimizations to increase long-term sustainability and improve the effectiveness of load-leveling requests across the provincial resource sharing system.

ARCA

Arca completed data migration to Islandora 2.0, and nearly all member sites have launched on the new platform. For an example of a member site on the Islandora 2.0 platform, see DOOR (DOuglas Open Repository).

ASKAWAY

Recommendations to ensure AskAway’s sustainability were approved by the AskAway Advisory Committee and BC ELN Steering Committee, and a Recommendations Implementation Team was established to develop a financially equitable and long-lasting commitment model.

WRITEAWAY

The WriteAway Advisory Committee approved the Sustainability Working Group’s recommendations, and the Service Model Working Group was established to address evolving student needs.

LICENSING

BC ELN launched a revised New Resource Selection process that allows year-round submissions, supports annual prioritization of suggested resources, and streamlines user access to information webpages.

Have a Wonderful Break!
