The art of taking your emotional temperature

This course is centered around an Emotional Quotient (EQ) assessment given through Target Training International (TTI). Emotional Intelligence (EI) is considered to be one of the most desirable characteristics in a leader. One study found that individuals with high EI could be 40% to 122% more effective in positions involving influencing, managing, negotiating and/or serving others. It is often argued that EI is more important to an individual’s performance than their IQ.

The TTI Emotional Quotient™ is a 13-page report. This business-friendly EQ profile is a simple yet powerful emotional intelligence assessment designed to be used by real people to get real results. This course will teach you to use your report as a roadmap and will help you think through your leadership and interactions with others.

Descriptions of the five core EQ factors measured are as follows:

Self-Awareness – How actively we take our emotional temperature

Self-Regulation – How actively we manage our emotional states in a positive manner

Motivation – How actively we use our emotional energy to move us closer to our goals

Empathy – How actively we observe others’ emotional temperature

Social Skills – How actively we manage the emotional states of others

INSTRUCTOR SPOTLIGHT

Dr. Heidi Reeder

How did you discover your passion for facilitation, and what led you to pursue it professionally?

Facilitation feels like a natural extension of my role as a professor at Boise State. I especially love working with returning students and adult participants—they bring so much experience, insight, and expertise to every session! Learning and growing together while sharing perspectives (and getting paid for it)? Count me in!

What types of courses do you specialize in, and what draws you to these areas?

My primary workshop with PACE is Developing and Delivering Effective Presentations. It’s always a challenge to get participants excited about presenting, but those breakthrough moments? Totally worth it. What draws me to this area is my belief that growing as a presenter is really about growing as a person. It’s about facing fears, connecting authentically with an audience, and embracing the moment to be fully alive.

What is one thing that you are absolutely unbeatable at?

I’m unbeatable as a doubles partner in tennis. Notice I didn’t say I’m unbeatable at tennis—definitely not that! But as your doubles partner, I’ll bring a positive attitude and adaptability every time. Whether we win or lose, we’ll have fun, learn, and leave the court better than we started.
