The year 2023 saw our Tree Ambassador program achieve remarkable milestones and leave a lasting impact on our communities. This dedicated group of individuals, hailing from historically disinvested neighborhoods in Los Angeles, played a crucial role in amplifying community voices and planting trees for a greener, more equitable future.

Key Achievements:
- 9 passionate Tree Ambassadors completed the seven-month paid training program, gaining valuable knowledge in "right tree, right place, right reason" planting, tree care, and community organizing.
- 2000+ trees were planted and adopted thanks to the tireless efforts of our Tree Ambassadors, providing much-needed shade, cleaner air, and improved urban heat resilience for residents.
- Community Impact Projects spearheaded by our Tree Ambassadors addressed specific needs and opportunities in their neighborhoods, fostering a sense of ownership and responsibility for the local environment.
- Stronger connections were built between residents and their communities through the program's focus on community engagement and collaboration.

|
|
|
Program Impact:
- Increased awareness and appreciation for the importance of urban forestry in low-canopy neighborhoods.
- Empowered residents to become agents of change and advocate for environmental justice.
- Contributed to a healthier and more sustainable future for Los Angeles by improving air quality and mitigating urban heat island effect.
- Provided valuable career development and leadership training opportunities for program participants.

Since joining the City Plants team, Ana, Monica, and Kristen have made significant contributions, injecting creativity, dedication, and knowledge into our programs. Their impact is being felt across the organization as we work to enhance and expand our efforts in creating an equitable urban forest.
We want to extend our immense gratitude to California Volunteers and the California Climate Action Corps Fellowship program for this incredible opportunity. Your partnership is invaluable, and we are grateful for your commitment to nurturing young environmental leaders and scaling regional climate resilience.

With funding from CAL FIRE, LA Sanitation partnered with LACC to have corps members remove concrete and install more than 80 tree wells in Reseda and Northridge.
City Plants and the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power funded LACC corps members to plant more than 150 trees in parkways, open tree wells, and newly created tree wells.
These projects provided months of work opportunities for corps members in LA Conservation Corps’ Young Adult Corps program, which provides job training to young adults with limited work experience. Many corps members also participate in LA Corps’ educational program to finish their high school diploma while working on our projects.
