✨A Season of Reflection and Gratitude ✨

Where celebration, culture, and remembrance meet.

As we move through the holiday season,

a time for reflection, gratitude, and gathering, we’re still feeling the joy and meaning of our 60th Anniversary Gala. The evening reminded us not only of how far Horizons has come, but of the artists, elders, and culture-bearers who continue to shape our community.

One of those moments came through the powerful presence of Ricardo “El Tigre” Peña and Danzantes Mixcóatl.

The Gala would not have been the same without Ricardo, whose presence carried tradition, humility, and a lifetime of service into the room.

The evening was a reminder of why gatherings like this matter: to honor those who give so much to our community and to sustain the work that brings us together.

If you were unable to give during the evening and are able to this holiday season, your support of Horizons’ youth and family programs is always welcome.

This Holiday Season, We Remember Ricardo “El Tigre” Peña

The Mission District is mourning the recent loss of one of its cultural pillars and beloved teacher, Ricardo “El Tigre” Peña.

Friends and neighbors remember Ricardo as generous, wise, kind, humble, calm, and deeply spiritual. He was a thoughtful listener and a steady presence, always in service to his community (Palma, Mission Local).

Alongside his wife Connie, he also taught free danza Azteca classes at the Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts, sharing tradition, discipline, and spirit with generations of dancers and community members.

Our hearts are with Connie and the Peña family during this time.

If you are able, donations to support the family are welcome.
