Happy Holidays from RRRASOC!
|
|
While we love to celebrate the holidays, we also realize that the potential for waste production, mass shopping, and over-consumption is at an all-time high in December. But, there is good news: small changes can make all the difference in reducing our environmental footprint this season.
Help us make this holiday season our most eco-friendly yet with a few easy changes to your holiday festivities - to see them, keep an eye on our Facebook page!

Green Gift Wrap - Not Just the Color!
|
|
You may already know that some types of wrapping paper are not recyclable because of glitter, plastics, and other non-paper additives.
Here are a couple ways to avoid this issue:
- Wrap with reusable materials such as fabric so it can then be repurposed or re-gifted. If your gift includes a blanket or a piece of clothing, use that as the gift wrap!
- Avoid the fancy wrapping paper and go with newsprint or packing paper to wrap gifts and holiday goodies.
- Paper bags from grocery stores are easy, reusable and recyclable. Staple them closed to make it difficult to peek in!
- Use paper gift bags. Not only are they reusable, but they're recyclable if they do not contain glitter, plastics, foil or fabric handles.

No Delays This Holiday Season
|
Please note that because Christmas Day and New Year's Day both fall on a Saturday this year, there will be no delay or disruption to your normal curbside pickup service.

Winter Curbside Collection Tips
|
|
As the snow begins to fall and outside tasks become just a bit more difficult, we want to remind RRRASOC residents of some helpful winter curbside collection tips that will help drivers run their routes more efficiently.
- Keep your carts clear of snow and ice with lids closed and accessible to the trucks.
- Don't place carts on snow banks. Clear an area near the curb so that the cart can rest flat.
- Do not put carts on the street, as this may cause carts to be blocked by vehicles or damaged by snowplows.
- If an overnight storm is expected, set your carts out the night before collection day.

REMINDER!
If you have holiday string lights that are broken, see if they can be fixed before you decide to toss them. Otherwise, check your local Home Depot, Lowe's or Best Buy to see if they accept string lights for recycling.
These lights can also be brought to ERG Environmental Services or to one of our 2022 HHW events for proper disposal.
