'TIS THE SEASON

NO MATTER WHAT HOLIDAY YOU CELEBRATE, WE'D LIKE TO WISH YOU A SAFE AND HAPPY HOLIDAY SEASON AND A PEACEFUL AND PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR!

From the Superintendent

Season's Greetings!

Over the past few weeks, we have had lovely festivities and sporting events to close our December month. I was able to enjoy a few winter concerts across the district, as well as the famous turkey lunch at Ballenas, and was reminded how much everyone appreciates these moments that we can come together as a community. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all staff for their hard work this fall across all of our departments, and tell you that your efforts are noticed and appreciated. Have a restful holiday season, everyone, as well as a safe and happy New Year, and we will see you all very soon.

It was a wonderful and entertaining evening at KSS on December 7th. The students, parents and members of the community enjoyed the harmonious sounds of the KSS Choir and Bands.

The Staff at PASS/WW hosted a Winter Feast for 75 people at their site. A festive meal was enjoyed and shared with students from PASS, the ROAMS program and District Staff.

The Culture Club at NBES opened this years concert by drumming, paddling, singing, and acknowledging our Snaw-Naw-As territory.

"Who" doesn't love a story with the Grinch! This time the Grinch tried to steal Christmas at QBES, but they wouldn't let him! The students made wonderful adaptations to the classic story and performed in front of a full audience of family and friends. Thanks everyone who came out to support the students, and a special thanks to the students of the QBES Musical Theatre, Choir, Art, and Sound & Light Team as well as Ms. Kelly for all the amazing work!

District 69 Schools Give Boost to Local Food Banks!

Leadership students from schools across the district collaborated on a food drive campaign in November and have collected almost 8,600 items of food and almost $1,700.00 in cash and grocery cards which will buy other needed items.

According to Linda Cherewyk, of the Salvation Army Food Bank, it's enough to fill at least 50 hampers. "It's amazing!", she says, " The number of people you have helped alone is staggering".  The food items will go towards Christmas hampers for families including 167 children as well as families from the Ukraine who are settling into our community.

The Salvation Army Food Bank also supports three school food programs as well as St. Stephens Community Meals. "We're very proud of all of them", says Linda of the District Leadership students and teachers. Some schools used items collected to offer their own food bank to families or donate to community programs.
