Leadership students from schools across the district collaborated on a food drive campaign in November and have collected almost 8,600 items of food and almost $1,700.00 in cash and grocery cards which will buy other needed items.
According to Linda Cherewyk, of the Salvation Army Food Bank, it's enough to fill at least 50 hampers. "It's amazing!", she says, " The number of people you have helped alone is staggering". The food items will go towards Christmas hampers for families including 167 children as well as families from the Ukraine who are settling into our community.
The Salvation Army Food Bank also supports three school food programs as well as St. Stephens Community Meals. "We're very proud of all of them", says Linda of the District Leadership students and teachers. Some schools used items collected to offer their own food bank to families or donate to community programs.
