Dear Friends of Shoals Marine Laboratory,

Wishing you all an ocean of joy and happiness this holiday season! Our shared love and concern for ocean health is a core value that unites all of us in the the Shoals Marine Laboratory (SML) community. For so many of us, time spent on Appledore Island has ignited our curiosity and enriched our lives. Immersive experiences at SML continue to spark vital discoveries, as each summer we deepen our understanding of the marine world through education and research. With the season of giving upon us, I want every member of the SML community to know that your generosity and gifts of time, funds, and talent have been key to our continued success!

The 2018 numbers clearly demonstrate SML’s achievements. With your help and support, our team welcomed a record number of students and others to experience the magic of Appledore Isla nd and the Gulf of Maine, including:

  • Dozens of visiting researchers representing many universities, including Cornell, UNH, Dartmouth, Tufts, the University of Massachusetts, and more!
  • Over 1,200 participants enjoyed our outreach program
