2025 was a blur, where did all those days go?

Soper Creek Yarn has transitioned well into online, but we still try to be that ‘small shop’ in town. There have been emails requesting help with yarn selection and pattern advice. Being able to send photos with colour choices has been the best option for some. I was pleased that we are able to downsize the locations to just 2 spaces. The selection of colours in some yarn has gone up, but others will slowly disappear. 

TheFarmer was able to return to normal activities this summer, but the farm is also in retirement mode. We had time to visit the Grandkids, they really are the best! 

To those who ordered from our shop, we thank you for your continued support. Parcels went around the world, and we have had to suspend shipments to the US as the complicated duties and taxes for the product line was just too much for a small business to handle. 

This small business was only able to thrive with the support of our customers! Your purchases directly affected the inventory selection, your enthusiasm and trust gave us the courage to continue.

I was sorting yarn, a thing I seem to do a lot these days. I decided to ‘clean’ up the sock yarn leftovers. I was inspired a few years ago by a customer who knit hers into scarves. I wanted these to be a quick project, so using 2 strands of yarn, 4.5mm needles and using Half Fisherman’s Rib for the stitch, the journey began. 

These will likely end up as a charity project or gifts, but they needed to be warm and washable. (Superwash sock yarn ends are perfect!) 

There will never be two the same! You can’t make just one!  

I even wrote out the pattern:

Materials:

All the sock yarn bits and pieces you can find, at least 200 grams. You could choose a full 100 gram skein of sock weight yarn (400 meters) as one strand and the leftovers as the other. 

Needles: 4.5mm needle, or whatever gives you the texture you like! (you are the boss of your project) 

For instructions for Half fisherman’s Rib: 

Half-Fisherman’s Rib Tutorial 

Method: 

• With 2 strands of fingering weight yarn held together, cast on 35, 37 or 39 stitches. Using a 4.5 mm needle. (I used 35 for the last one, not much difference in width) 

Ribbed section:  

• Row 1: Knit 3 (icord edge) *K1 P1* to last 4 stitches, K1 Slip last 3 stitches with yarn in front of work. 
• Row 2: Knit 3 (icord edge) *P1 K1* to last 4 stitches, P1 slip last 3 stitches with yarn in front of work. 
• Repeat the last 2 rows for 3 cm, or when you think it’s long enough. Repeat row 1 of ribbed section 

Main Section: (starting on wrong side)  

• Row one, (wrong side): Knit 3 (icord) knit to last 3 stitches, slip last 3 stitches with yarn in front of work. 
• Row Two, (right side): Knit 3 (icord) *Knit into the stitch below, P1* repeat to the last 4 stitches, Knit into the stitch below, slip last 3 stitches with yarn in front of work. 
• Repeat rows One and Two until the scarf is long enough, leaving enough yarn to do another ribbed section: 
• End main section with Row One, then continue with Ribbed section to match the beginning, or until you are out of yarn! 

Hints:  

Join new colours at the end of a row so when you must hide those ends they can slide right into the i-cord edge. 

If you don’t mind a bit of a tangle, use 2 (double strands) on alternate rows. Work 2 rows with one and then 2 rows with the other) to blend some the of colours together, they do get tangled, but worth some of the effort.
