Rachel Yarus, 2014 College Panel participant, recently answered some questions about the impact of being dyslexic in college.  Rachel graduated from School of the Woods.  She is a junior at Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois, majoring in sociology with a minor in history.  Rachel plans to continue her education by pursuing a graduate degree in archeology.

HBIDA Annual Report

Jessica Harris, president of HBIDA, presented the 2014 Annual Report at the annual membership meeting on December 1.  New Board and Advisory Council members were introduced.  Members of the Parent Networking Group reviewed their activities in 2014 and their plans for 2015.

James P. Carter, M.A., CCC, SLP, Educational Diagnostician, Assistant Clinical Professor - Baylor College of Medicine, Manager - Speech, Language and Learning at Texas Children's Hospital, and a past president of HBIDA, gave a well-attended presentation on the basics of dyslexia on December 4, 2014 at the 15th Annual Region 4 ESC Dyslexia Conference.  He discussed the history, characteristics, causes, definition, appropriate intervention, available resources, and controversial treatments.
