Four companies win funding at GROW-NY and FuzeHub commercialization events

Capro-X , an agritech spinoff based in Ithaca, N.Y., won $250,000 at the inaugural New York state Grow-NY Food and Agriculture Competition last month. The company, which joined Venture Creations in 2018, is helping to increase sustainability in the dairy industry by solving the acid whey waste problem prevalent in Greek yogurt production. Its WheyAway treatment technology uses naturally occurring, non-GMO microbes to upgrade dairy waste streams into clean water and natural and sustainable alternatives to palm oil chemicals.

In the regional FuzeHub competition, Venture Creations companies Molecular Glasses , Combined Energies and Circle Optics each were awarded $50,000 for their business plans. FuzeHub, a not-for-profit organization responsible for assisting small to medium-sized manufacturing companies in New York state, announced winners at the third annual FuzeHub Commercialization Competition Nov. 20 in Albany, N.Y.

Circle Optics
Circle Optics is a 360-degree camera company which uses a unique optical solution to combine fields of view at the level of the lens, rather than in a computer after the fact. This technology allows capture of 360-degree video in higher resolutions for less money and hassle than traditional approaches as well as the ability to live stream without errors or losses in quality.
Sniffy Labs
Sniffy Labs is a company that creates technology to facilitate pet-care and improve the relationships between owners and their pets. The first product of the company, Sniffy, is a mobile app that provides dog owners with professional, on-demand, customized dog training services.  
Meet the Interns
Sara Beth Banach
Social Media and Communications
Sara's focus is on creating our social media content, writing our newsletter, re-branding the VCI marketing and promotional materials, and assisting with the internal office updates.

Sara is a 3rd year New Media Design student with a minor in Game Design and an immersion in Advertising and PR. She is looking to pursue a career in UI/UX or Interactive Design, focusing on creating fun and accessible digital products.

On campus, Sara is an active part of the community. She is proud to be the Social Media Captain and an Assistant Manager for RIT Esports. She plays the violin in the RIT Game Symphony Orchestra, and is a member of the orchestra's design team. Lastly, she is also a part of the New Media Club mentorship program, where she networks with and offers guidance to underclassmen in her major.
Leah Kramer
Design and Marketing
Leah designs marketing and promotional materials for VCI and it’s clients, and assists with a lot of internal projects around the office. In the past, she has worked alongside Pegasus Environmental to build their Squarespace website, solidify their branding, and assist with the creation of marketing materials.

Leah is a 3rd year New Media Design student with a minor in Advertising and PR. She is hoping to pursue UI design in the future. Alongside her position here at VCI, Leah does freelance work, and is a designer RIT Campus Life Marketing.

On campus, Leah is known for being the president of her sorority, Alpha Xi Delta. Through sisterhood, leadership, knowledge and service to our community, Alpha Xi Delta aims to inspire women to “Realize Their Potential.” Seeking to enrich the lives of each of our members, the organization encourages intellectual, professional, and personal growth while also nurturing unity and cooperation.
Inamutila Sòn Kahupi
Business Analyst
Inamutila is a Business Analyst at Venture Creations - a role he embodies because of his love of negotiations and entrepreneurship. His primary responsibilities in this role include working with business coaches to understand the barriers and opportunities faced by some of the businesses in our incubator, by unlocking their potential through analysis and research.

Inamutila hails from Namibia and is a second year Sustainable Systems master’s Fulbright Scholar. He is currently working on his thesis titled “ How to Build Competitive Advantage for Disruptive Circular Economy Products & Service Innovations with Saunders School of Business. Inamutila thrives on international exposure and his background is a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering from the University of Science and Technology Beijing, China.

An avid networker, he is also the Vice-President of Fulbright Students at RIT; Graduate Student Ambassador for Golisano Institute of Sustainability and the Sustainability Chair for the RIT Global Health Club. Inamutila believes that the most important aspect of his education at RIT, will be learning how to model eco-friendly systems from a developed world to fit the developing biosphere. This is in relation to affordable feasibility and a sustainable implementation.
