WLC in the News
MEDOVI
(Multi-Ethnic Domestic Violence)
Project Director, Suzanne Bailey, co-wrote an article published in the ABA, entitled, "If We Were in Our Home Country: Remedies for Victims." They write,
"Despite differences, many times survivors have one significant thing in common, which is that many abusers understand that crimes, particularly against women, are treated differently in the United States. This understanding is apparent in threats to victims such as, 'If we were in OUR home country, you would be dead. If we were in OUR home country, no one would help you. If we were in OUR home country, nothing would happen to me.'” Congratulations, Suzanne, on publishing this important article concerning foreign-born victims of domestic violence.

Staff Spotlight
Congratulations to POARP (Protective Order Advocacy and Representation Project) Staff Attorney Jennifer Mercer, who helped her client receive a permanent protective order recently. Jennifer says, "
A permanent protective order means that the survivor has an order for life directing the abuser not to contact her. These orders are very exciting to get because eligibility is highly limited, to the point where many attorneys do not even know they exist. My client was emotional with relief when the hearing concluded, and I am very grateful that I got to be a part of her story."
