December Newsletter

As 2018 draws to an end, we are reflecting on all of the good times we've shared at Island Beach State Park this year - beach grass plantings, trail clean ups, surf contests, the Pet Expo, Beach Plum Festival, and best of all, connecting with our wonderful members and volunteers. All of that and more to come in 2019!
We hope some of your favorite memories of this past year include Island Beach State Park as well. Wishing you the happiest of holidays...see you next year!

The Friends of Island Beach State Park could not operate without the generosity of our donors. Through countless volunteer hours and the selfless donation of your hard-earned money, we strive to continue to increase public appreciation and stewardship of Island Beach State Park!

Your donations help to support the upkeep of the beach and osprey cameras (a very costly endeavor!), purchase much needed items for the Park's nature program, purchase materials for restoration projects like our annual Beach Grass Planting Event, offer free events and educational programs in the Park, and more!

New Years Day Hike
January 1st, 2019

Ring in the New Year at beautiful Island Beach State Park! Join the Friends of IBSP for a scenic walk down the beach. Walk is approximately 1.5 miles out and back, but feel free to turn back at anytime. Naturalists will be on site to point out the flora and fauna present.
Afterwards, warm up at the bonfire. Winter is a great time to experience the a natural beauty of the IBSP!

Snowy Owls Return to Island Beach

Snowy owls have once again migrated down from the arctic to spend some time at the Jersey Shore. If you are lucky enough to encounter one, please keep in mind the following guidelines from the Park Staff:

Please do not enter the dune system to photograph them. The dunes are critical to the survival of this park and are very sensitive to foot traffic.
Please do not approach them.
Please be courteous of other visitors.

For more information on the Snowy Owls, please visit ProjectSNOWstorm.org.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Island Beach Nature Center at 732-793-1315.

Fall Beach Grass Planting

Our fall beach grass planting was a huge success! Over 100 volunteers came out and planted 15,000 plants that will help to stabilize the dunes years to come.

This year's planting has been generously sponsored by Wakefern Food Corporation and the Barnegat Bay Partnership.

We're committed to making Island Beach State Park - one of New Jersey's most popular state parks - one of it's best cared for. Thanks for your continued support!
