Happy Hounds News
December 2015

December is finally here! This begins the countdowns to everyone's favorite things; school breaks, snow days, holiday celebrations and New Years parties! Not to mention the endless amounts of snowball wars, building forts and making snow angels. Granted, at Happy Hounds, Snowball fights are just a better form of fetch, forts are typically yellow and snow angels are shaped more like doggy butts and doggy body-nests. Regardless of your winter plans, you can always count on your furry friend to keep you company and warm during the colder winter days and nights.

Be sure to inform Happy Hounds of any changes in your dog's standing reservation that may better reflect school breaks or snow days for your human children. The weeks of December 21st through January 3rd are always busy at Happy Hounds. If you'd like to schedule daycare or boarding during those two weeks, please try to schedule it in advance to assure that we have space for your pup to play and stay. If you need to cancel or change a reservation, no worries! Give us a call to make any changes to your reservation so we can better accommodate you and your furchild.

Happy Hounds will be hosting our annual Christmas party for the pups on December 14th. Make a reservation for daycare for your favorite little helper. All the dogs will have a fun time searching for snacks in ice, posing for pictures and chowing down on some cake from Three Dog's Bakery. Our December birthday party will be held on December 21st. Birthday dog or not, reserve a spot for your pup to help all his friends celebrate another fun year!

Have a fun, safe and HAPPY rest of 2015!

Sincerely,

Christine Perez
Happy Hounds

Dogs of the Month

Meet Haley, a Yorkiepoo. Haley joined the Happy Hounds family in October 2010 at the age of five months. What a ham she is. The moment a staff member walks in the door, Haley squeals and charges them, flops on her back and waits patiently for a belly rub. Haley is our Queen Bee of the office. She's always the first to greet the dogs coming into the office and make sure their presence is welcome among the others. Haley is a true team player and a wonderful pack leader.

Meet Max, a Yorkiepoo. Max joined the Happy Hounds family in July 2011 at the age of two. He had a rough start. Max was adopted by Haley's family with heart worm. He underwent a long process to heal physically and mentally as he was rather shy with new people. Once he made a full recovery, this boy began joining Haley for play dates and slumber parties. Max truly is a sweet loving soul, a true representation on how great rescue dogs can be.

Meet Duncan, a Labrador. Duncan joined the Happy Hounds family in August 2010 at the age of three. He's a typical, goofy lab. Duncan is always on the go! Whether it's greeting new dogs and clients, chasing around the pretty young pups, a long game of fetch, or a competitive game of tug. Even though he is full of energy, Duncan is not afraid to take a break, often curling up on the comfiest spot and taking a much needed, leisurely nap with a blanket and a fur-end. He's quite possibly one of the best cuddle buddies during boarding.

Meet Maggie, a Terrier mix. Maggie joined the Happy Hounds family in January 2008 at the age of two. She's definitely one of a kind. Maggie not only has a unique look but she also has a unique personality, friendly, playful and sassy.  She's always thrilled to attend daycare and romp with friends. Maggie is a pro at fetch but if she doesn't win, no one wins. She will bounce over to whoever has the ball, bark until they drop it and happily pick it up and return it to whoever is willing the throw it. Maggie is the MVP of fetch, so what if she cheats. Ha!

Roxy's Recovery

In the October newsletter, we added a story about a previous Happy Hounds' employee, Lauren and her best friend, Roxy. On September 10th 2015, Roxy was diagnosed with oral cancer, and on September 22nd Lauren found out the cancer she has is Undifferentiated Sarcoma. The Animal Cancer Center believed that with Radiation Therapy, Roxy will have a good chance in fighting this cancer. However, this treatment is extremely costly, $6,000-$8,000.

Roxy has successfully completed radiation and started chemo on November 21st. Her vet bills are at $6,000 but if Lauren chooses to continue the chemo for 6 months as recommended, they'll reach over $8,000. Right now, Roxy is doing a one month chemo trial to see how she responds to it. As of now, she is doing really well. Happy Hounds was and is continuing to actively support Lauren and her quest to raise the money in hopes of saving her best friend. Happy Hounds has raised $150 for Roxy's cause! We will continue to sell Roxy's ropes for a discounted rate of $8 a rope. Consider stopping by and grabbing one for your favorite furry friend.

R omp I n P eace
This year we welcomed many new friends into our ever growing family. With all the joy we gain from every pooch, unfortunately, there comes a time when we have to say goodbye. It's never easy receiving that call or reading that email. The amount of heartbreak we feel for the loss of our friends is the only downside to this business. We as humans grow such a strange affinity for these goofy little creatures known as man's best friends. Make no mistake, no matter the amount time we've spent with them, whether that be a little or a lot; the love, loyalty and knowledge we gain from your beloved furry family is unwavering. With every new pooch we learn something.. how to better care and accommodate a new personality, a new feeding ritual, who clicks with who, what gets them into their silly, wild craze. It isn't just about your furchildren, it's also you. We love having the time at pick up and drop off to chat, hear your funny stories about what your pup did, what adventures you're going on or just plain cracking jokes. Our heart breaks not just for the lose of our furry friend but for you. The truth of it is, the moment you and your best friend walk through the lobby doors on your first initial meeting, you have both joined our large, drooly, Happy Hound family. We thank you for giving us reason every reason to laugh, smile and feel loved from you and your furry friend.

To Jake, we were so lucky to have spent 7 years with you. You joined the Happy Hounds family in June of 2008 at the age of five. You were a true gentleman, always had to be personally escorted through gates and doors because you wouldn't dare barge through or cut in line.

To Blue, you were the epitome of gentle, old soul. You joined the Happy Hounds family late in life, the age of 10. From the moment you graced us with your presence, we loved you. You were exactly what we needed in our pack to give the youngens guidance and give the staff reassurance. If only we had met you earlier in life, one month wasn't nearly enough time with you.

To Smokey, you are greatly missed. We learned so much about you in the ten years we had the pleasure to spend with you. Know that your twin brother, Teddy, has learned how to be his own dog. You were always the goofy, needy one of the two. Demanding all of the attention.. If another dog was being pet within view, you were never afraid to voice your disapproval.

To Zoe, sweet Zoe. Even up until the very end at the age of 15, you were such a trooper. You always wanted to follow us everywhere, especially Christine, walking underneath all the big pups. We had to bring your favorite green dog bed everywhere we went in case you needed to curl up for a quick snooze while on the job.

To Sassy, you left us too soon. At the young age of 7 years, your passing was so shocking. Our sweet, needy, goofy Golden. If you weren't bouncing with one of your few best furry friends, you were glued to the side of a staff member, just soaking up all the attention. You always knew when it was time to be picked up, patiently waiting in the stairwell, looking out the window for your dad.

To Claus, our little ambassador. You always enjoyed spending time with all dogs, big and small, especially the big fluffy doodles. Even at the age of 15, up until the very end, you were very devoted to your job of welcoming new dogs to the pack and making sure your two favorite staff members, Andrea & Sharon, were being properly looked after. We miss you and all your hard work, dedication and above all, unconditional love.

May you all Romp In Peace.

Friendly Reminders

When boarding your dog with us, we MUST have your dogs updated vaccination records 48 hours BEFORE he/she begin boarding.  If you are traveling abroad, we also will need a local contact in case of emergency.

Your dog MUST have a snap "quick release" collar for day care and boarding, with no tags attached. You can keep the snap collar in your Happy Hounds backpack.  If this is not his/her daily collar we will change it out when your dogs arrive at Happy Hounds.  This is important for your dogs safety.

Be sure to inform us of any changes in contact information; phone numbers, email/home address, emergency contact, etc.

If a family member or friend is picking up your pooch from daycare or boarding, you must pre-pay their bill. If it's a last minute decision to have someone else pick your pup up, please give us a call with payment and let us know who we should be expecting.
