Dog Food Drive This Month
Support Last Day Dog Rescue
Happy Hounds is pleased to announce we will be having a dog food drive for Last Day Dog Rescue, which is the rescue group we work with accepting up to 3 dogs for temporary housing/play that get to run with the pack for up to two weeks until a foster or adopter can be found. This is done by Happy Hounds at no cost to the rescue group. The dog food drive will run the entire month of February. Anyone wishing to donate dry/canned/treats can do so by dropping them by the Happy Hounds lobby. There will be a container in the lobby. We will count and report back in the March newsletter.
Meet This Month's Happy Pups
Bailey H.
This pretty pooch is Bailey, a husky mix. Bailey joined the Happy Hounds family in September of 2004 at the age of two. She is such a sweetheart! So much so that she hops up to give you kisses on command. Bailey is also known to serenade her mom with her very own musical composition called "The Mumma Song". Its quite lovely and endearing.

Charlie F.
This little squish is Charlie, an English Lab. Charlie joined the Happy Hounds Family in October of 2012 at the tender age of 4 months. As a typical lab, Charlie excels in playing hard and sleeping just as hard! He attends daycare five days a week and is pretty much the ambassador to all the new pups at school. Charlie is everyone's best friend!

Cubby A
This fluffy fellow is Cubby, a Samoyed. Cubby joined the Happy Hounds family in July of 2006 at the age of 6 months.  Cubby is quite the character! He's all personality with a splash of demand. When Cubby wants something, he often runs to the closest employee and let's out a couple woo's, followed, of course, by a few demanding stomps of his front feet. Every day spent with Cubby is full of joy and laughter. He truly is a person trapped in a dogs body.

Einstein A.
This is our famous Einstein, a long haired miniature dachshund. Einstein has been a member of the Happy Hounds family since April 2010 at the age of 4 months. Since he attends five to six days a week, he believes he's head of security. When Einstein isn't playing or napping with his best friends, he's often patrolling the dogs at play, both big and small. Not only that, he's also the first to alert the staff that someone is here. He's quite the little helper.

A Look At Pet Insurance
Five Things To Consider Before Buying A Policy

Compare Policies

Pet insurance companies differ on conditions covered, out-of-pocket amounts, and deductibles. Some carry payment caps per incident, others set lifetime caps per pet.

Doug Kenney, DVM, the author of Your Guide To Understanding Pet Insurance, an e-book he updates annually says, "There is no best pet insurance company." He encourages pet owners to ask "Which is the right insurance for me?"

On his blog, petinsuranceguideus.com, he offers worksheets along with a five-step research approach to help you decide if pet insurance is a smart option for you and if so, which company will meet your needs - and your pet's.

Buyer's Guide

Get the best policy you can afford when your pet is young and premiums are lower and your pet is healthy.

Have your company review your pet's medical records upon enrollment and let you know if the pet has any preexisting conditions. You will know from the start what is covered and what is not. By law you can cancel and receive a full refund within 30 days.

Read a sample policy - every word. Look for hidden gotchas, such as not covering exam fees, or higher co-pays for emergency visits or specialists' care.

Keep your premium low by paying a higher deductible. It should be an annual deductible and not a per incident. Most companies give you options for several maximums, deductibles, and co-pays.

Make sure you can be reimbursed within 14 days. Some provide reimbursement electronically, speeding your reimbursements.

One thing no insurance company will tell you is when you might not benefit from having a policy - say, if you have a special needs pet, or own several dogs and cats. Your best bet in this case would be dedicating a low interest credit card for pet expenses or discuss a possible payment plan with your vet.
