As the first full month of Summer begins, so does the family fun! Here at Happy Hounds we're welcoming the Summer season and a new dog trainer with open arms. Jim Lessenberry of Animal Learning Systems and his staff of academically trained Animal Behaviorists have officially joined the Happy Hounds family! We will be offering a 6 week family training class in which you are encouraged to bring the members of your household, including children. You and your pup will learn leash etiquette, proper play and socialization, relaxation and distraction training in a small class setting.
If you and your pup are in need of a fun little date, EG Nick's and Three Dog Bakery in Plymouth are coming together for a wonderful charity event to benefit Huron Valley Humane Society. Wine & Dine with your Canine will be held at EG Nick's from 1pm-3pm on Sunday, July 26th! For just $20 per person (dogs are free), you can bring your pup to EG Nick's in Plymouth, to chow down! Beer, wine and food will be provided by EG Nicks; treats and beverages will be provided by Three Dog Bakery. You may get your tickets at E.G. Nick's (500 Forest Ave, Plymouth) or at Three Dog Bakery (550 Forest Ave, Plymouth).
With the lovely Summer weather, the pack has been spending plenty of time outdoors. Thanks to Mosquito Joe, we're all able to enjoy outdoor time without those pesky flies, bees or mosquitoes. They do offer a nontoxic, organic option. Each spray typically lasts 3 weeks. If you're interested, feel free to ask for a coupon when you drop off your pooch!
Have a fun and safe 4th of July!
Meet Lennie, a long haired chihuahua! Lennie joined the Happy Hounds family in September 2011 at the age of 11. Don't let his small size and age fool you, Lennie is a fearless little champ! He's extremely mellow and friendly with dogs of all ages and sizes. Lennie spends his days at Happy Hounds relaxing, often napping on a bed underneath the office desk. He's the perfect little office helper and excellent distraction. Whenever the office staff is low on tasks, he's more than willing to step up and give them the job of rubbing his soft, fluffy belly. There's no slacking when Lennie's around!
Meet Oliver, a Border Collie mix. Oliver joined the Happy Hounds family in July 2008 at the age of 10 months. What a dashing young lad! Like most dogs, he enjoys patrolling the yard for critters. When he's not on the job, Oliver spends his time making sure playtime is going smoothly. As a collie, he's often found herding and letting his fellow pups know when playtime is getting too wild. Oliver is definitely an asset to have around!
Bob & Midge
Meet Bob & Midge! Bob, an Old English Sheepdog, joined the Happy Hounds family in June 2009 at the age of 4. What a goofy dog. Bob is an excellent sidekick. He's often right next to his favorite human of the day, walking side by side, never straying too far unless there's a game of fetch. After being an only pup, his parents decided Bob needed a sibling. Midge, a plott hound mix, officially joined the Happy Hounds family in February 2011 at the age of 4. She has a special place in our hearts. Midge originally came to us in December 2010 from Last Day Dog Rescue as our foster pup. She lived with us for two months before Bob's family saw her and fell in love. Midge was adopted by them and began to attend Happy Hounds daycare and boarding with her new brother. She just adores Bob. When boarding, they're often found snuggling up on the couch, right in front of the tv.
Family Training Class for Companion Dogs:
In just (6) weeks, our professional staff of academically trained Animal
Behaviorists teach you how to develop an excellent attitude and
extraordinary manners with your dog - using only a buckle style collar and
a six foot leash.
Our exclusive methodology is designed for the entire household, including children of all ages.
The course fosters safe, relaxed, pro-social behavior in human students and dogs alike - employing none of the "alpha dog" or "pack leader" dominance centered methods that define other popular training approaches.
We don't profess to speak dog and don't expect the dog to speak or comprehend English, or any other human language. We teach you to establish a method of communication with your dog, allowing you to direct its behavior and attitude.
All dogs (8) weeks or older are eligible.
Class size limited to (6) families in Plymouth.
Curriculum also includes: Leash Etiquette, Proper Play and
Socialization, Nuisance Behavior Prevention, Safety, Relaxation and
Distraction Training, House Training, Cage Training and Destruction
Prevention. Presented in (6) one hour evening classes.
These wonderful Happy Hounds pups celebrate another joyous, fun loving bone-chewing, birthday.

Birthday dog or not, bring your pup in on Monday,
o enjoy cake with their favorite pooch pals.
Summer is the season of fun family vacations! If you're planning a trip with your pooch, there are some tips and tricks to make traveling safer and less stressful for all involved.
Be sure to:
- Pack a first aid kit.
- Pack any medications your pup is prescribed.
- Pack a copy of your pup's medical records.
- Have information for the nearest vet handy.
- Be sure Fido's heartworm and flea prevention are current.
- Bring collapsible bowls for food and water.
- Don't feed your pup a full meal before leaving, instead offer frequent snacking. Should your pup be prone to motion sickness, ask your vet for anti-vomit medication.
Never leave your beloved pet in an unattended car. Even 70 degree days can raise the temperature inside your vehicle to over a 100 degrees!
When boarding your dog with us, we MUST have your dogs updated vaccination records 48 hours BEFORE he/she begin boarding. If you are traveling abroad, we also will need a local contact in case of emergency.
Your dog MUST have a snap "quick release" collar for day care and boarding, with no tags attached. You can keep the snap collar in your Happy Hounds backpack. If this is not his/her daily collar we will change it out when your dogs arrive at Happy Hounds. This is important for your dogs safety.
Be sure to inform us of any changes in contact information; phone numbers, email/home address, emergency contact, etc.
This summer will be our 11th year of cage-free, fun-loving service with our day care facilities and our overnight lodging. Our staff is dedicated to your dog's fun and well-being.
