Happy Hounds News
July 2018

First and foremost, we would like to thank you for how patient and understanding you've been with us, especially over the last few weeks. We've been so crazy busy with tons of summer boarding traffic! When we have an unusually high number of boarding dogs, this does limit the amount of daycare pups we can accept. Though we have never implemented our Late Cancellation/No Show policy in the past, we  WILL  be starting to charge for  no shows  and  cancellations  not received by  7am same day . Instead of charging for the full amount as our current policy states, we will be adjusting the policy and implementing a fee of $10 per dog for no-shows and late cancellations. These fees will be due at drop off on your pup's next scheduled visit. Please keep an eye out in your emails for an updated cancellation policy as we will be sending it out to all clients once completed. If your plans change and you would like to cancel, please give us a call, leave us a voicemail if we don't answer or send us an email. Emails are preferred just in case there's a discrepancy on our end. As I'm sure you can understand, it's very easy to get sidetracked here. Ha! We do not want to charge you if you've previously cancelled. Having the email is a great way for us to have confirmation of your cancellation and will give you the chance to dispute a cancellation fee if need be. We do keep a wait list of the pups who were previously turned away and as we receive cancellations, we call the wait list puppers. Unfortunately, because we've been so full and have had to turn a lot of pups away, we want to make sure we're able to fill any unused spots. This last week we've had quite a few no shows which again, takes the spot away from someone else who might need to utilize daycare for the day. You will NOT be charged to cancel or reschedule if you do so before 7am, the morning of your scheduled visit. Of course, we'd prefer earlier but sometimes life gets in the way and we understand that. At least by 7am, we can start calling the waitlist pups if we've received cancellations throughout the night.

Since we're on the topic of capacity and busy season, let's dive into Labor day vacation. Yeah, I know, it's a little early to be thinking about it seeing as how summer vacation just began but make sure you get your Labor Day weekend reservations booked in advance. A lot of families plan last minute hoorahs to close off yet another great summer break. We urge that if you're considering taking a fun road trip or decide to go ruff it in the wilderness on a camping outing or even just a day trip kayaking, let us know ASAP.

If someone else is picking up your pooch, you are responsible for informing them of our hours and lobby rules, most importantly, that only one family is allowed in the lobby at one single time. They may line up along the boarding house(back building) to wait their turn. Payment must be settled PRIOR to your pup departing, we do accept phone orders, and we need to be informed of who is picking up your pup if not someone from the same household.

We hope you all had a fun and safe 4th of July!

Sincerely,

Happy Hounds

M eet Kelso

Kelso, a collie mix, joined the Happy Hounds family in April of 2012 at the age of six months.

If Kelso was a human, he'd definitely be a jock... but not your average jock. This boy is full of beauty, brains and his athletic skills are Olympic quality. There's not much this guy can't succeed in... Except for maybe a career in singing. We can always tell it's Kelso barking when we hear his tone-deaf signature call of squaking seals.

When it comes to playing ball, he's a staff favorite. Kelso is one to not only catch the ball 95% of the time but he also is quick to return it, often dropping it in the most convenient of places. At your foot, in your hand, in your lap or my personal favorite, on the desk, right next to the mouse. I swear that boy KNOWS I'm right handed. He never drops it on the left side.

Luckily this dude is super patient because finding his collar at pick up is no easy task. After 6 years, he knows that we're still not skilled enough to pull off a quick and smooth leash attachment.

Firework Season!!

It's no surprise, dogs just don't like fireworks. This time of year can be extremely hard and stressful on them so it's always best to be prepared. K9 Turbo Training has some great tips and tricks to keep your pup calm, soothed and mentally occupied during these tough times.

  • Make sure your pup has had plenty of exercise through out the day. A tired dog is more likely to snooze the night away peacefully.
  • Plan your last potty break at a safe time, when it's still light outside with very little chance for fireworks to be set off. When dogs are scared, they can't mentally process things as clearly as they would normally. It's very common for dogs to panic and jump or dive underneath fences. If you HAVE to let your dog out during a questionable hour, do so on leash.
  • Distraction, whether that be with snacks, music, fans, tv or D) All of the above.

Everything is trial and error. What works for some pups, might not work for others. I know my two boys don't have a worry in the world when I start passing out frozen yogurt and kibble filled kongs. A well made kong can last even the most persistent chewers and food critics at least 45 minutes to an hour.

Important Reminders
Please leave nylabones and rawhides at home. If packing a large bag of food, be sure to write the amount per feeding on the bag.

* Lobby doors are locked between 10am and 2pm on weekdays(Monday-Friday). We will not accept any arrivals or departures during those hours.

*  Dogs with expired vaccines will not be accepted for daycare or boarding. We require an  updated vaccination record 48 hours BEFORE he/she arrives.  If you are traveling abroad, we also will need a local contact in case of emergency.

*  Your dog MUST have a snap "quick release" collar for day care and boarding, with  no tags attached. This is important for your dogs safety.

* Please let us know at least 24 hours ahead of time for cancellations and reservations. No shows and last minute cancellations will be charged for the day.

*  Be sure to inform us of any changes in contact information; phone numbers, email/home address, emergency contact, etc.

*  If a family member or friend is picking up your pooch from daycare or boarding, you must pre-pay your bill. If it's a last minute decision to have someone else pick your pup up, please give us a call with payment and let us know who we should be expecting.

We'd be more than happy to take any and all plastic bags off of your hands.
