Happy Hounds News
June 2015

First off and most importantly, a happy start to the summer to you and happy pool parties for your pet. Enjoy the warmer days ahead, beautiful flowers, walks with your pup, picnics with the family and a summer full of adventures with the kids. Speaking of kids, if you will need to change your weekly reservations for your pup when the kids depart their educational abyss, please inform Happy Hounds of your summer plans. Happy Hounds will soon transition over to summer vacation status with many dogs visiting for a break from their parents/siblings and due to that reason please, reserve your spot in plenty of time for our staffing needs. We do not want to turn anyone away for the July holiday and have our babies spend their vacation lonely.

As many of the parents are aware, Canine Influenza was in full swing in our country with a few pups testing positive in Michigan in May. Here at Happy Hounds we always treat our pup's health as top priority. Happy Hounds staff have been on a regimented cleaning program in addition to our normal sanitizing efforts. Water bowls are washed by hand with soap before every water change to prevent any spreading of germs. Our yard sanitizing and toy care cleaning efforts have doubled to curve the spread of this respiratory illness. I regularly monitor the CDC website for updates on the new Canine Influenza. Lastly, a huge effort to prevent the spread of Canine Influenza rests with obtaining a long history of new clients that are applying for a spot for their pets at Happy Hounds. I have put a halt on accepting any new clients with their pets from out of state and sheltered dogs specifically. I will continue to resist efforts in bringing new pups to our facility in order to keep the family that we currently have at Happy Hounds happy and healthy.

A quick update to our monthly birthday/holiday cakes that are served, Happy Hounds will be working closely with Three Dog Bakery for future terrific Birthday/Holiday Cakes. Three Dog Bakery is a local business here in Plymouth and have a fantastic variety of treats and healthy options for your pup. Our next pooch birthday party with the new Three Dog Bakery cakes is June 15 for our June pups. Reserve your daycare spot now.

Sincerely,

Christine Perez

Dogs of the Month

Paulie & Tucker

Meet Paulie & Tucker, both beagle mixes! Tucker joined the Happy Hounds family in January 2009 at the age of 5 months. What a refined little gentleman! Tucker has always enjoyed the finer things in life; sleeping in late, napping in the sun, playing a game of fetch. Paulie joined the Happy Hounds family in May 2010 at the age of 7 months. Paulie is the biggest sweetheart. She loves greeting her doggy and human friends with a cute little wiggle and a giant smile on her face. Paulie and Tucker were destined to be siblings. From the moment Paulie joined their family, Tucker transformed into the best big brother possible. He loves nothing more than snuggling with sister and of course, disapproving of all of Paulie's friends.

Sadie

Meet Sadie, a Cocker Spaniel. Sadie joined the Happy Hounds family in June 2008 at the age of 3. Her favorite hobby is looking out the window, watching for chipmunks and keeping the yard clear of squirrels. She's an excellent little watch dog. When she's not keeping the little critters at bay, she enjoys curling up for a nap with Einstein in the office.

Sam

Meet Sam, an English Bulldog! Sam joined the Happy Hounds family in October 2008 at the age of 8 months. He's definitely a beefcake! Sam's agenda at Happy Hounds is the complete opposite of every other dog. He always comes in ready for a snooze under the office desk. After all, the excitement of a car ride and being at Happy Hounds is almost too much for him to bare! Typically once he goes to the boarding house for the night, that's when he's ready to play. Sam can usually find at least one friend who's willing to romp with him.

Dog Days of Summer
Summer can be a very fun time for dogs and their   humans. It's the season for strolls through the park and long days playing at the beach! However, there are plenty of common problems that arise for our doggy children during these fun-filled months.

It's no surprise that dogs love

walks! If you decide to take your best friend for a hike, keep an eye on where exactly your dog's nose is leading him. Steer clear of plants with burrs; they can be painful to your pooch and a pain to pick out of their coat. Though we all love spending time in the sun, high temperatures can cause sunburn and heat stroke for dogs. Swimming is a great way to keep your pup cool. It's also a favorite past time for many pooches! Be sure to keep a close eye on Fido's ears, trapped water can lead to a painful ear infection. More importantly, unsupervised playtime in or around pools and lakes can lead to every parent's worst fear, accidental drowning. Summer nights means bug bites! If Fido has his own personal kiddie pool to keep him cool and entertained, be sure to dump the water when he's done splashing! Mosquitoes love stagnant water! Though mosquitoes are a common bug that enjoys feasting on our pups, keep your pet away from bees, wasps and woodpiles where spiders may reside. Do not spray harmful bug deterrents on or around your pup! They are toxic!

So please make sure your loved furbaby is well prepared for fun in the sun.

Friendly Reminders

When boarding your dog with us, we MUST have your dogs updated vaccination records 48 hours BEFORE he/she begin boarding.  If you are traveling abroad, we also will need a local contact in case of emergency.

Your dog MUST have a snap "quick release" collar for day care and boarding, with no tags attached. You can keep the snap collar in your Happy Hounds backpack.  If this is not his/her daily collar we will change it out when your dogs arrive at Happy Hounds.  This is important for your dogs safety.
