H appy Hounds News
November 2017

It has recently come to our attention that a few regulars were found to have Giardia after a fecal testing. One of the reasons we require fecal testing every 6 months is so we can catch these types of parasites early and help prevent further spreading. Giardia is one of the more common parasites that effect our pups and can be found anywhere where pups frequent, such as dog parks, walks with parents, hikes through woods, etc.. It can be picked up from eating infected grass, stepping in(and licking their feet) or drinking from puddles, and of course, eating other pups' poo. Pups that test positive for Giardia or any other parasite are immediately removed from daycare and aren't allowed to attend until we receive a clean bill of health from the vet. For more information on Giardia and to view the symptoms, visit AKC.org.

The holidays are stressful for pets just as much as they are on us. With all the running around and last minute errands on your agenda, don't forget your pooch is patiently waiting for you to come home and play. If your pup is a little extra bored or stressed, consider scheduling a day of daycare to help your favorite pooch unwind and have fun. With the holidays just around the corner, boarding and day care reservations are filling up quickly. Be sure to book any day care or boarding as soon as possible for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years. If you already have a reservation booked and wish to tweak the arrival or departure days/times, feel free to give us a call. We're more than happy to accommodate you and your pup. As a quick reminder, our hours on Thanksgiving are 8am - 5pm and the daycare charge is $45.

Sincerely,

Happy Hounds

Here at Happy Hounds we strive to keep a happy and clean environment for all pups.  With the cooler weather finally rolling in, now is the time to remain hyper-vigilant when it comes to signs and symptoms of them feeling under the weather.

As you know, we now require the bordetella vaccine(kennel cough) to be given every 6 months in hopes of better preventing. Though the bordetella is not 100% effective, we want to be positive we're doing as much as we can to assure everyone goes home happy, healthy, tired and not-too-dirty.

Some of the signs of kennel cough are:
  • a strong cough
  • runny nose
  • sneezing
  • lethargy
  • loss of appetite

If you suspect your furry loved one is feeling under the weather, please leave them home, that is the best way to prevent the spread to other pups. Be sure to call or email us with the cancellation to avoid being charged for a no-show.

Happy Hounds' Dog of the Month
Meet Millie

Millie, AKA Mildred, a golden doodle, joined the Happy Hounds family in December 2014 at the tender age of 4 months. What a spitfire she is. This pooch has absolutely no shame when it comes to getting into trouble at home, it's her way of letting mom know it's been far too long since visiting her friends at school.

Millie is definitely a tomboy which makes for an easy, adaptable playmate. This girl's specialty is wrestling and getting down and dirty with the rowdy crew. She's one of our most popular kids at school. Millie almost always has a line up of friends begging to play with her and in the off chance no one is available, she uses her signature move to instigate play, the Puppy Punch. The Puppy Punch starts off with a wormy wiggle charge, followed by a few quick paw jabs to her potential playmate. No one can resist her advances.

Once Millie finally starts slowing down, we know exactly how to get her going again... a long winded, high pitched "WOOOOOOO!"
Works. Every. Single. Time.

Thanks Millie for always sending your friends home tired and for keeping us laughing. You're the true MVP.
Adoptable Dog of the Month
Meet Oscar!

Breed:  Shepherd
Sex:  Male
Age:  Young
Spayed/Neutered: Yes
Energy Level:  High
Good with children:  Yes
Good with dogs:  Yes

Oscar was found by a local police officer, severely emaciated. Since then, he has absolutely thrived in his foster home. He is now a happy, healthy, energetic boy who loves to play, play, play. He does well with kids and loves other dogs. We feel that he would do best in a forever home with another even-tempered dog his size or larger. Oscar is currently learning his basic commands and his manners around other dogs. He follows his foster mom around like a shadow. Oscar walks well on a leash and is crate and house trained.
