Dear Friends,
I cannot think of a more important day to reach out to my neighbors than Independence Day.
While sometimes it feels like we’ve never been more divided, let’s take a day to celebrate what unites us and makes us all one people: Americans. I hope you can take a few minutes today to think about all the qualities that make America an exceptional nation. Ours is a country of opportunity, mobility, prosperity, and greatness. We have cultivated these qualities over centuries by respecting the tribulations of the many generations that came before ours. Those people were imperfect, as we are, but we are indebted to them for creating so much opportunity and prosperity for us.
We still have much work to do. A self-correcting country and civilization always will. But our work must be done prudently, carefully, and deliberately so that order is maintained, and our freedoms remain intact. And for all of our country’s faults, it still inspires awe and admiration across the world. Millions of people would happily leave their homes abroad to make new lives on American soil. This would not be the case if America were anything less than exceptional.
Today, I will celebrate the progress we have made throughout our history while being sincerely grateful for the sacrifices made by previous generations. I hope you will join me in memorializing that history this Independence Day.
