Good news, and not so good news, we had to move our Annual AfriWare Books, Gifts & Cultural Events in-person Kwanzaa event to online only, Saturday, Dec. 31, 3pm CST, via Zoom. Unfortunately, the severe weather caused a flood and compromised the building's heat in other parts of the building. Our bookstore is now heated and will still be open throughout Kwanzaa, however, we decided to reformat the larger event and move it online to ensure a safe and enjoyable community experience. We are so excited to expand the number of speakers from 1 to 4, expand our reach across the world, and, share a multitude of experiences and insights. You will hear from Natasha Tarpley, Janis F. Kearney, Dr. Cuttie Bacon, and Theresa Tha S.O.N.G.B.I.R.D.
We encourage you to visit other in-person Kwanzaa events around town like the ones at Malcolm X College, Oak Park Public Library, Bethel Mennonite Community Church, The DuSable Black History Museum and Education Center, and others (see flyers below).
Again, please spread the word about our online event Sat., Dec. 31, 3pm CST. We apologize for any inconvenience this may've caused. We are still your one stop shop for all your Kwanzaa items including Kwanzaa books, Kwanzaa CD, Kwanzaa sets, lawn signs, posters and even just THE BLACK CANDLE ONLY!
